    O2 sensor issue

    A little back story:

I bought my GTX with a JDM engine already installed (about 95% complete install) and it only needed the alternator to be hooked up and the O2 sensor.

I now need to hook up the O2 sensor and the JDM sensor has four slots and the ecu has one slot.

So am I missing another 3 slots in the ECU, or can I just run one wire from the sensor to the ECU....any solutions?

    Cheers

Im assuming without it plugged in, you have a check engine, no?
Ide plug one in at a time. My guess is they are all the same signal but for different locations in the system. Dont know why there would be four wires comming out of an O2 sensor...

Oddly enough I don't have a check engine light on! The car runs fine except the turbo doesn't produce boost (not sure about the issue, the car hasn't run in almost 10 months)

My mechanic thinks there is 2 different locations for where the ECU reads the temp and two slots to warm that area. To be honest I have no clue about eletronics....so I'm kinda talking out of my ass and repeating what my mechanic told me.

      Any insight?

well im guessing that when u got the car the o2 sensor was not hooked up cause it was a 4 wire sensor, correct? Well the BFgtx uses a single wire o2 sensor, u are using the wrong sensor, somone prob put that in there to fill the hole.

you can use the 4 wire sensor without an issue in fact it is an upgrade over the 1 wire

1 black ( sensor wire for the ecu )
then the others are ... 12v switched power (for the internal heater)
and 2 grounds you will have to ohm out which ones are which. the benefit is that the car doesnt have to wait until the exhaust heats the 02 sensor to use it. cuts down on wear and tear on the motor and gives better emissions. they are usually a little more accurate as well

Here is example of someone replacing single wire sensor in their Miata with a four wire (Bosch) sensor: http://www.miata.net/hakuna/0004/h0001.htm.

Attached PDF is instructions for installing four wire Bosch sensor.
