Diamond in the rough! (88 323 gt project)

ok guys. so i picked up an 88 323 gt a couple weeks ago from portland, oregon. and got it home to salt lake city. hers are some pics...

the engine was bad and i only made it about 300 miles before i called it quits.. (too cold no heater, went through 6 quarts of oil, on 3 cylinders haha etc..)

so i pulled the engine apart and lets just say an exhaust valve has seen some better days lol.. here is a pic

now since i have had an interest on these cars for about 5 years and have done about 4 festiva b6t swaps and had 2 gtx's in the past i had a spare head layin around and some new rings sittin on the shelf , i tore into it, honed it, put the rings on, bolted the good head on, long story short its running pretty good now!

here is a pic of the engine currently..

now that its running.. i have discovers i ton of problems..

1.the windows did roll up and down?? now they dont...

2.the moonroof one side the little rod is broken so it doesnt function fully it only pops up the rod that pulls it back is broken..

3.the stereo was stolen and they ripped all sorts of wiring, the tailights dont work unless i twist these 2 wires together and then they stay on so i have to untwist them when im done driving haha..

    4. the clutch cable was replaced and its all screwed up and makes this horrible clicking noise and is not smooth when pressed down at all..

    5. the heater core was broken when the previous owner had it..

    6. the break lights keep blowing fuses

    7. the windshield is trashed, and the rear passenger side wing window was broken... bastards...

so basically if anyone has some wiring diagrams or something or any spare parts that i may need.. i wanns make this thing nice!! or try!! haha.. maybe i will sell it in the near future?? i dont know..

any help will be much appreciated, thanks!

Nice. Just try to hide that muffler a bit. That's the only thing I can think that wrong.

On looking at the sunroof I wonder if its the same as the bg protege. If so yank a glass one out of a escort gt(91-96) and swap it.

Look back in general, you will see my write up on installing the BG Excort GT power moonroof. I did almost two years ago, and i am more then pleased with it. Its very nice to have.
Also, Take the power window switches apart, and clean the contacts. They get dirty after a while and wont work. Also check to make sure the springs are good.

I'm glad it's running right for you now... I knew there was more than the exhaust that was wrong with it. I should have picked it up as a DD, I have tons of motors... but i needed something that ran without work.

i picked her up in the beginning of feb. it broke down in baker haha i stayed at the welcome in for a couple nights till i could get a dolly and truck from uhaul when they were open..

a few things have changed.. after i put the new rings, its been about 5000 miles its starting to smoke again. i have been beating the crap out of it so its no surprise.. it needed a bore and some oversize pistons but i just threw it together anyway..

but now im gathering some parts to do a bp+t id say in about a week ill get started and im shooting for 250+ whp.. so stay tuned

there was never anything wrong with the exhaust the owner was an idiot lol..

i think the reason the cat was glowing red or getting really hot was because the one cylinder that had a chipped exhaust valve the fuel was just going right through and then it was burning in the cat causing the problem.

I have a few parts, as I parted out a GT.

PM me if you need anything.

The frame was too bad on this car to keep it for road use.

Engine and tranny is good, the moon roof almost blew off in route 3 hour drive home.
