    Prop shaft bearings

Anyone found a good source for the two carrier bearings holding up the three prop shafts? Last spring is damaged one and the other was already bent all up when I bought the car. I need to find a source or a cross over part from say an RX-7 so I can rebuild the whole shaft assembly.

    Thanks, Jon R.

Try car-part.com. Put 'drive shaft rear' in their part search form. Sort by distance. I realize this is not the part you want, but you can call the junkyards from the results and be more specefic on the phone.

I was hoping for new bearings, not used ones. But, if I get desperate, I'll go that way.

The bearing itself, or the bracket? Or both?

I bought my carrier bearings new from Mazda. They still have them, but I don't remember how much they cost me.

i also got my new ones from mazda about 6 months ago. i tried getting the rubber support but that has long been discontinued. Also remember to get new C clips for when u disconnect the joints, which u gotta do to replace the bearings

I'll bet the bearing is fine on my rig, but the rubber bushing is torn and the bracket bent. In fact if the rubber wasn't torn the bearing would be toast by now. A pry bar can straighten the mounting bolts, but I still need a new bracket with the rubber bushing. Since the jury is out, I'd best call Mazda and see what I can find. Hopefully it will take less than 2 weeks, as that's all the time I have.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

That's my real problem, the brackets and rubber bushing area is a bit mangled. I guess I'll start at the Mazda dealer too, go from there. The real bitch of it is the fact that all three shafts are dented now too, from the rock that banged it's way down the center of the car. They aren't too bad, but should be taken out and re-balanced.

So update. I called the Mazda Dealer about the rubber bushing support, for the front. $163! No so keen on that. They can get them though should I want to spend the cash. I'm almost thinking building a custom one from some delrein would be cheaper, and stronger. Not something I have the skills for, nor the drive since the car is going to Sarge.

Jon, I'd say do what you did with your motor mounts: custom them up. Start with the metal bracket and get a rubber insert fabbed. For $163 you can do way better than stock.

Yeah, I probably can just take it all apart, and find one from something else that could be modified. I just thought I would ask. Why make something if you don't have to. I'm working on a rwd Celica right now with a nice carrier bearing in the middle of it's driveshaft. Hell, that thing might work, who knows until someone tries.

p.s. the Celica is why I haven't been on here much lately, it's my new time consuming toy project.

I didn't, but I'm calling back today to get the seals ordered, so I'll ask him what the part number is. Then one of us MMS guys can look it up. It's like a 20-30% savings there over dealer?
