every section in this forum has answers to your questions , for example , in the engine/drivetrain u will find topics about enhacing engine per. or about problems and how to solve them (once again engine/drivetrain related , in the next section suspension/braking ..... well u get the idea , read all of them carefully andu will find answers , just dont ...... btw welcome to the forum.............. start topics like this where u expect pple to pore info into your mouth by the pages, read all sections , use search function, and then ask if there is something not covered , , btw just by typing body kits in the search , you will find a lot of topics in the /exterior section of the forum . just remember u have a 1st gen so focus on those sections .

      Get a 5sp. LX
I don't think you will ever tear up much with an auto dx.

if you want to tear up the road, buy a different car. even most of the modified proteges are running like 15 and 16 second 1/4 mile times and that pretty much sucks really bad...your car is more like a good first car or maybe a winter beater. although i have to admit they handle alright for what they are.

For engines, you have a few options out ther depending on what you want out of the car and how much you're willing to spend. The cheapest option that will yield about 125hp is to swap a DOHC motor from an LX Protege or an Escort GT. If you have a few thousand to spend then you can look into getting a GTX or a GTR motor from a Jdm familia rated at 180hp and 210hp respectively. The V6 motor from the MX-3's will also fit if you're looking to increase the number of cylinders.

Thanx Idetityx I was getting confused with all the mentioning of bp/b6 and so on. Just curious though did all the DX models come with a 2.0 sohc or was there and option for that? May be a silly question but... my car has the 2.0 and all I have seen mentiond 1.8/1.6

no it doesnt have the 2.0. You have a 1.8 SOHC

As stated above, you have a 1.8 SOHC. That's the standart motor for the DX. The LX has the 1.8 DOHC motor that can be found in the Escort GT's as well. Check out the Protege FAQ. It is very informative and might answer some of the other questions you might have ....
