    Head gasket????

How difficult, or how long does it take to change head gasket?
Mine went out without overheating, so the block should be ok. But if not is the miata 1.8 block an upgrade or the same? I'm planing on turboing, should I get a dual metal gasket or is stock sufficiant for only 6-7 psi boost?

Wow, that is pretty good. It took the better part of a day for me just to put the head back on and I didn't remove the manifolds. I will be doing it again shortly since the head was cracked.

Why are you changing the head gasket? What reason? Most places sale a 3 layer metal gasket. It will take you one day to do it. Remember that you will need new oil, and coolant. Also go buy ARP studs since you can re-use the head bolts. If you got all that, then you are set. Good luck!

If you are referring to me, I have the white cloud of death, still. There is a crack in the head in one of the exhaust ports of cylinders 2 or 3. The headgasket was only part of my problem in cylinder 3. I reused the original bolts last time but I will look into the studs this time. Using the studs, can you install the head with both manifolds on while the short block is in the car? I used a felpro gasket last time and I will probably do this same this time.

I don't think he was referring you you, he was asking the reason that scort4life was changing his out.

I got big cloud of greyish smoke coming out the exhaust when I start it up, and a light trail of smoke behind me as I am drivin. I also seem to have a cylinder miss firing. I replaced the plugs, wires, Distributer, cap and rotor and coil, and car still is miss firing. So my only other thought is with smoke and it miss firing, I figure it to be the head gasket. No oil in coolant, and no coolant in the oil though?????????? I do know that my rear seal is leaking pretty good, but i don't think that would cause it to miss fire and blow grey smoke would it?

You may want to have your head magnafluxed, you may have some cracks that are not visible to the naked eye. If it is not that you may have warped the head. Most local automotive machine shops will do that for you sub $100 range, it may save you a headache in the future.
