    EGT Group 2 Rallycar Build

One of my customers Chuck decided after crashing his Nissan Rallytruck, he'd crash his Toyota Corolla Rallycar!!! When he came to me to build him a new car I of course suggested the escort, and here we go again...

We've already gutted the car, deleted the AC, Heater/vent units, and started on the cage. Here's a few photo's of the rear suspension arms we built out of 1" x .186 wall cromoly---drilled and tapped for 3/4" midland rodends we sell and then using the ROODWERKS spacers to make them fit.

I'll post more pic's as we get further into it.

this set-up works great i did mine with bushing style ends though just for more drivability

i kept mine adjustable just on the rears, same set-up as stock, basically i just made a quick jig for the non-adj ones so they were made to exact stock spec then did a adjust link on the outside rear bar, alot easier to align to can't wait to see the rest of the build

Contact Jon Rood at ROODWERKs---the way I do them is with higher end rodends which are over a hundred for the set-then the arms are $7 a foot, $30 per arm to drill and tap the threads, and then spacers---ouch!!! Jon sells a set for like $200-$300 complete. There are much cheaper ways to go as well but the rodends wouldn't finish a race...

Depends who's driving... ;-) I still haven't bent one of my .095 wall arms, but I certainly keep spares around. Then again, maybe I'm not trying hard enough... Chuck will test them for us.

I think you drive plenty hard enough---and I'm not talking about your arms---it's the $8 aluminum swedged arms with 1/2" rodends from our speedway crowd that worries me. Jim Cox put them in the back of his rallytruck with a big 383 engine and they lived for a while...until they didn't!

Like Jim mentioned I have recently built a set of arms for someone who talked me into it, then machined the spacers for this build too. I've used the same swedged arm set-up on my rally car for the last two years, no problems. So, I guess if anyone is interested, let me know and we'll discuss the options I offer.
Also, in another post, I mentioned I'm going to be working on forward arm solution so we can re-mount the oem sway-bar. I'll keep everyone updated, when I get to this project. I've been a bit tied up, as well as my work space, with another project right now.

The original parts are just stamped steel, with weaksauce rubber bushings. In a rally environment, with rocks, stumps, trees, fences, ditches, potholes, ruts, etc, they kinda don't hold up so much.

A nice tube setup like this, with strong rod ends, and strong rods, will last a lot longer, and if it DOES get bent, it's easy to replace. Even with the discount from MazdaSpeed Motorsports, it's 86 each for the rear, and 76 each for the fronts. And, the MSM discount specifically does NOT apply to Ford Escorts. They're $124 front and $143 rear before the MSM discount, for a reference point of what you'd be paying at a dealer for the parts....

I've been meaning to do something like this for a LONG time, just never really got around to it yet. Now maybe I won't have to!
