    Not a B-chassis but still a Mazda...

    This is what happens when good cranks go bad. This happened on my way back from my brother's place last summer.



















    The worst part of this all was during disassembly I discovered that the bearings in the bottom end were only 3 years old... the engine had been rebuilt not too long before I bought the car.

    That sucks, what was the initial cause, a turned bearing?

      Not entirely sure what the initial cause was. The engine had developed a knock so I checked out the bottom end and replaced the rod bearings as the ones in the #1 cylinder were just about gone. I thought the crank was fine, but the damage had been done. It ate through the new bearings in about 2 hours of driving and kablooey.

                i was just gonna say that was a f2. wasnt dead sure untill i saw those OEM beefy rod's!

                thats a sad site. im 20k shy of the 300k mark on my beater, and i have no doubt ill get there. one of the truely great mazda motor's.

                    monoxide: I'm surprised you didn't see my thread on MX6.com when this happened...

                    I don't suppose the F2 rods work in a BP by any chance? I have 7 of 'em kicking around currently...

                      i dont frequint mx6.com much. there are members there that are so high on the horse, that i cant stand to smell the horse ****. lol.
