Any one else running E85 in there BP/ BPT

Just wondering if any one else is running E85. I just filled up and tuned the car to run on it with the megasquirt. So far im likeing it. Still need to up the timeing more. E85 is 105 octane at $1.56 a gallon. Im only at 19degrees of timeing at 16psi or boost no detonation. I think with the E85 i should be able to run quite a bit more timeing. Probubly not much more boost tho on the stock bpt bottomend.

2.69 still isnt that bad. the last time i put fuel in my 95 it was nearly $5.00 a gallon....

i'd run E85 in a heartbeat, but we cant get it around here. you know you have to tune for different (richer) AFR's with that stuff right? lambda is at a much richer point.

Yeah i put it in and then drove right down the street and added fuel. i have a innovate Lc-1. It was at 18.1 when i put it in when it was previously at 14.7. So i added about 30% more fuel and now idle is at 14.7 again and wideopen back at 11.4. The lc-1 reads the same regardles of fuel type because it uses lambda. That stinks that you cannot get E85 its nice. I never even thought about it till one of my friends that runs E85 said why dont you run it you are only at 50% duty cycle on them injectors lol.

What stations carry e85? This might be exactly what I need for the 460cc injectors and my tiny turbo.

there was an official statement from mazda released in austrailia about was cars were E85 compatible based on the materials used in the motors and the various seals. the BG/BP vehicles were not listed due to incompatible seals.

Keep an eye out for any leaks and deteriating rubber seals while running E85 and replace them ASAP.

also tell us which ones broke down so we can run alcohol based fuels too

Yeah I was just about to say that... that be careful with that E85. I remember reading somewhere that some rubbers are not compatible with it, especially some fuel hoses.

The energy content of alcohol based fuel is less than gasoline. So you will run through more fuel for the same mileage. However detonation threshold is quite a bit higher.

What are you using to detect knock?

Let me rephrase. Unless you take advantage of the higher detonation threshold and you instrument a test to achieve maximum advance, you actually lose power with Ethanol based fuels.
