    B6 sohc cam ?s

I have an 89 323 SE with the B6 sohc and was looking in to an upgraded cam shaft. I know the b6 isn't the best for good power gains, but i was wondering what the possible gains form a good cam could do? I had also heard of cam grinding like finding a camshaft that's the right length and having it ground to specs. I don't know much about that though. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

Check on festivia motersports web site, i know not many people do work on the b6 sohc but i believe they had some stuff(maybe camshafts) for that engine. Look into doing the Dohc head swap, thats most common and gives good gains when attached to the sohc bottom end.

I checked out that website and unfortunately i didn't find anything. A head swap would be ideal! Id much rather have dual cams for sure but it just seemed from what I had read that nothing swaps on to the B6. I hope i'm wrong because if there is a DOHC head that will work than id much rather do that! BTW thanks for the input!

You can get the B6DE DOHC head, it bolts up to the block! It comes in the 94-96 4 cylinder MX-3s

Or u can use the head off a b6t car, like the bf chassis Gtx or gt. Or from a mercury Capri xr2

for the money you'd spend on a custom cam for it you could well afford a BP swap

That's probably true and id rather just swap the motor but i'm short for cash. Im not sure about the mx3 but i do remember a dispute regarding the a b6t head on a b6 block and i cant seem to find out if it actually works or not because i hear something different every time. is it certain that the b6de will work? is a clean bolt on or is there some modding ill have to do?

Ok so if got the B6DE DOHC head from an MX-3 and put it on my B6 SOHC bottom end would i have to do anything with the ECU? Will i be able to use my stock B6 SOHC ECU?

well .. it would be out of tune with the new performance of the engine with the better head .. so idealy NO ... will it run ? ... dunno

ok so ive been looking and searching all over google and what not and i cant really find out if this it is really possible to do a Dohc head swap on the b6 sohc block. I did fine something about a Miata head on the b6 but im just not finding a straight answer. I know the b6T head wont work or at least that's what they say. and i looked up head gasket part numbers on the b6d from an MX-6 and the b6 from Felpro and they don't line up. Has any one done this kind of thing before? Or know about any one that's done this and seen it? I just need a solid answer bec i will do it if its possible, i just need to know.

yes, b6t head will work on a b6. the bottom end is the same thing, only differences are the stronger rods and lower compression pistons on the b6t bottom end. when you do the swap to the dohc head u will need all of the B6T dohc parts. intake mani, exhaust mani, valve cover, disty, new timing belt+all idlers.

the same swap is possible with a b8 sohc to bp dohc, just swap the head

Ok so the B6t head will work on the B6 SOHC. now my question is will the B6DE head off of a Miata work? And what should i do about my ECU?

I agree to not change the cam shaft.....

not enough gain of anything, for the cam swap.

This B6 is a peppy gas saver engine and if your happy with it for it's performance and economy, why not run it until it dies....

Then consider a engine swap to a bpo5 or possible B6T.

I have a 88 GT I am going to consider making a rally car.
The thought has crossed my mind to make the swap into my SE, but when my MPG is over 40, I am leaving the idea to much later.

Guys last weekend I drove 5 hours at 70+ and still had 1/2 tank of fuel.

I def cant complain with 36 mpg that's for sure! ill probably run it until it dies and work on the interior, exterior and chassis in the mean time. Will the bp05 work with the tranny Ive already got though?
