    Well, agian...

    It's about time I started one of these. 3 years and some odd months ago I had a 93 Escort LX that **** out on me, and I came across this nice 98 Pro LX in the paper for $1800, after a few phone calls, I had it sitting in the parking lot waiting on me to drive it home after work. So all that said and done, I have put almost 100k miles on her and now my little Z5 is starting to die. After doing a little reading and research, I have decided to do a swap, and turbo. So, two Saturdays ago,for $214.01 I picked me up a 140,xxx mile BP in a junkyard 93 miles north of me and took it to a freinds house and started dismantling it. I will have pictures up of what I got of the tear down and everything that I can snap of the build will be here in this post. Comments welcome, and I feel exhilarated to be BP powered once again.

      Here are the pictures of what I had time to snap or have friends that were there to take.

      Hour and 15 minutes later. The beer was still late.


      Look what I scored! I am super happy about this. MBSP FTW X2!

      I didn't get a chance to snap pictures of this, but the timing gear key had sheared off no telling when, and the journal in the crank and the gear were both FUBAR. I had to take a hammer to the backside of the old oil pump to get the gear off. x.x The block is now at the machine shop getting blueprinted and vated. I will pick her up Saturday and then figure out what to do about the crank problem.

        What year did this engine came out of? I hope is not a small nose crank lol

          92, Its a large nose, pulley came off with the one bolt. Got me a crank and a timing gear, and rods are in discussion right now. Thanks guys, you know who you are!

              Yeah, if you look in the forced induction section, I have a TD04-13T of a Subbie and the matting flanges for it that I am going to run.

                Well yesterday was a good but uneventful day. I picked my block up and started back to my side of the river and called a pal that was going to lend me an engine stand for the build. But, low and behold, someone borrowed it and never returned it. (Gotta love those neighbors.) He is currently looking for another spare one for me to use in the meantime. The beer was cold and the company that I had was good, so no big loss. Got rid of some of that fugly sagging plastic splash guards. Sorry if some of the pictures here are not good quality.

                I also got a chance to get some pictures of my "one peice" exaust that I had made over a year and a half ago. The reason that I say "one piece" is that there are two peices of tubing that are welded together, no flanges anything except for the one at the front, all hung in stock locations.









                And before I get flamed, I think that the canister that I have here suits my car IMO. It pulls it off very well the way I had it mounted.







                But to my dismay while I was under there taking those pictures and checking things on the rear out, I noticed my muffler hanging a little cock eyed. OH NOES, it's got a crack!





                Well **** it, cheap ass eBay ****. Gives me a good excuse to get another one for the BP, but that will come at a later time.

                I also got a few shots of the crank where the key had sheared the key way.



                See how wide the key way is at the top of the crankshaft nose in this picture.



                Here is a side shot. I never did go back and get a picture of the timing gear where I fed it up getting it off.

                So the beer kept coming and the night wore on and this is what the end result was like.

                  Making some progress man! That exhaust is not bad, it's like mine! One piece catback lol So are you going to use stock pistons? Have you gotten B6T rods yet? Don't forget ARP head studs! lol

                    I am going to try to get a set of forgie pistons, and I got some B6T rods on hold, ARP head studs are on down the line.

                      You don't need forged pistons unless you are planning to make 400 hp+, but if you have the cash why not?

                        I am going to go ahead and build a bullet proof bottom end, that way what ever I decided to do with it, I can. "Do it right the first time."

                            Forgot to post this earlier, but I have to work next Saturday, which is good and bad. Good for my pocket book, but bad for the Proty. I will get to work on some things on Sunday if possible.

                              Update!

                              NO engine stand as of yet. I HAVE to buy one of those. But I got the oil squirters installed back in the block the other night.





                              Cleaned the garage a bit and drank. My new crank should be arriving in time for the long weekend so maybe if everything goes well, I can get it balanced and installed, oil clearances checked and the thrust set also.
