    Yay ms1 opinions

Okay i recently aquired a ms1 from a guy on feoa. and i plan on putting it in my 1.9l ford escort ( turboed obviously ) but since its a 96 it has an ohh harness. go figure. it has a 37 pin harness adapter on it. and like 3 inches of the wires hanging off. I think i could figure out where they all goo and run wires to the designated areas but i want to know what route other people would take in this situation.

currently i dont have a job but i think im getting a job at a local garage this monday coming up ( just finished my first year of college as an automotive service tech )

just curious what other people would do to wire it in for example

just try to wire it as is

buy a relay board and relay cable and make my own harness

or find another escort with a obd1 harness and buy the adapter you guys make

feel free to chime in and call me a

EDIT : i dont have a db9 connection on my laptop(db15) so i have to wait for the db9 to usb adapter to arrive from ebay to see what im working with

That is indeed a V3.0 board with an MSI ECU.

You can build your own harness from scratch using Mazda pigtails for the sensors and actuators, you can modify the harness in your car (cut off the ECU connectors and replace them with the DB37), or here is what I have come up with as the cleanest solution:

The cleanest way is to make a "boomslang", the wiring adapter lex shows in his thread. Easy and you don't need to cut your wires. Or you can just get some wires and extend your harness using the stock oem pigtails, that way you will only have what is needed without all the additional crap.

Do you have a wiring diagram for the vehicle? You can find another 1.9 computer at the yard, yank the connector out and build your own boomslang.

If you are going to wire the MS yourself, you will definitely need it.

Okay i just pulled 2 computers out of the car and curious which plug in i am suposed to use. and am i suposed to use the male or female end. meaning i would have to open the coumputer up and remove it. Im sorry my wiring knowledge is only basic, SO i may ask a lot of question.

Well im pretty sure its the far left one and if im going to do this im pretty sure i would have to use a female connector so i can plug the stock male one into it. Also im still trying to get my hands on something to lead me to the wiring since i only need the ecu one im not to thriled to buy a whole manual.

Ps. if i wire this in stock Do i still have to use my maf or will my iat sensor take over?

Intake Air Temperature is no replacement for Mass Air Flow. you may be able to use a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor instead of the MAF though.

the blue compy is the airbag unit. That is definitely a wierd looking ECU on the left, though. My escort's only a 95, OBDI, and it had the same outer dimensions as the mazda BP ecu, with no heatsinks. Same connectors too, just pinned a lot differently.

Are you sure you've got an OBDI system? I thought that in 96, the feds required all cars to be OBDII, and '95 was the crossover year where some were OBDI, and some were OBDII.

It is an obd2 THats what iv been trying to say. And the megasquirt itself has a mapsensor in it i belive.

These don't look like ECU's to me, not enough pins. Look harder for the ECU. You WILL need a manual with wiring diagrams for the 1.9, no way around it. then, you make a boomslang with the spare ECU connector you have. For the VAF, you will have to leave it there if you want to use the stock IAT sensor or remove it and replace with a pipe with a separate IAT sensor (you can use a spare coolant temp sensor, just get the resistances from the manual)

There are no other ecus in there car And i kinda figured i would need to buy a manual. And im most defiantly going to get another iat because maf is geh

Ps. Why doesnt the stock iat work?
