    1989 323 Engine/Motor Mounts

Hey all, I have not been here in a while . But I have tried the search.

My G/F is going to be putting the '89 323 back on the road. Her father says that it needs a motor mount and a Tie Rod. He is not sure if it is inner or outer. But that is a topic for a different thread,

Right now. I am puzzled about motor mounts for this thing. Every where I go I get different results for what I need. Every Time I tell it Its a 1989 Mazda 323 1.6L Non-Turbo.
    Prices vary by almost double.

I need some help in finding the motor mounts that I need. Now her father claims that only one mount is busted. But a 20 Y/O vehicle with 280,099 miles on it. And a Transplanted Tranny, I am thinking about replacing all of them. I was told my Advance Auto that there are 4. Tell me if this is right. 1 in front by radiator. 1 by the belts, passenger side. 1 firewall side. 1 to support the trans(always double in price when compared to the rest).

Now I have done enough with my Ford Explorer that I can grasp changing motor mounts. But I can't get a hold of a Shop Manual. Has any one changed the motor mounts on the '89 and down. ? I don't have an engine hoist. Some people tell me that I can support the drive train with a floor jack and a block of wood. Is that true?

Any out there done this ? I have looked for a guide and have not found one.

rockauto.com, even with shipping they kill all the local shops, at least for me. Beware of the wholesale discount items, I got a lower balljoint this week that didn't have a boot, WTF. Oh well, they're customer service rocks, they just ship another out that day. They get that wholesale from closing stores and whatnot.

+1 for rockauto.com, and you are correct on using the floor jack. just replace the pass side and tranny top mount 1 at a time, then support the engine with a jack and block of wood under the oil pan right close to the where the tranny bolts up. with that done u can remove the 4 bolts that hold the front and rear mounts, drop the 4 bolts on the subframe and replace very easily

        I will 3rd Rockauto.com. I got the 4 motor/trans mounts for a cool $100.

Any one have pics of the process? Just want to know as much as possible.

Also. Back to the motor mounts. All the fit mets for the this late 89 (will have production date soon for clarification). State that his vehicle needs the following motor mounts Using Anchor Part no.s
          2x 8065
          1x 8073
          1x 8068

I found where 8068 and 8073 go. they are obvious. Both lower end if powertrain. Rear and Front cross member respectively.

But i have yet to find 8065 (let alone twice) I did find that the upper passenger side required my to look up an '87 323. And I contacted Anchor directly because they state in their online fitments that 8101 and 8262 both fit in this position. But they look identical on the web. I sent them pics as it appears on the vehicle. For me they recommend 8262.

So For those that are looking for this motor mount. fitting and 89 MANUAL TX.

I will be ordering 8262 from Rock auto with a 5% club discount for a total 38.40 shipped.

I will let you know how well it fits when it arrives.

as far as I know most BF's use only 3 mounts - tranny front & rear and then passenger motor.

the BF GTX uses a mount on top of the AWD tranny, but none of the base models I know of do.

We shall see what happens this weekend after the gaskets are replaced.
Some say 8065 is front and lower. Other 8073. I will write up what all three are when done.
