    Reviving After a year

Hey all. Well we are waking the '89 323 up after a year long snooze. She is at 280,000 Miles.
    Here's what has been done.
Had a Trany transplant 3 years ago. (Gear oil finally broke in)
    New STruts (same springs)
    Maybe some bushings replaced.

But it has been off the road for a year. What should I be concerned about. Arethere any parts that were by NOT being used?

thats almost one of those things that you'll come across the errors/quirks as you drive it again. if you have the option put it on bricks or jackstands over the winter. that'll keep the struts/springs alive & from sagging

            No one else?
Well I am off to go get her. I will first do an Oil change.
I plan on putting in fresh gear oil in the trans axle in a few days.
Everyone I talk to about the tx have different opinions.
Because it sat for 2 years that should change things.
            my options are
            • replace with 80w90 Gear Oil
            • Replace With DEX III ATF
            • replace with 75w90 Synthetic.

Stay away from ATF in a manual. You want something thats going to coat the gears well. Depending temperatures, 75w 90 would do you fine.

Ok, let me rephrase. Is this a too and from car, or a track car? If you are going to do anything performance wise, ATF isnt bad, but it does make for more gear noise then anything else. Ive heard horor stories when I was a tech of ATF killing synchros as it isnt as thick and doesnt coat them nor the gears very well, but these days, More and more trannies are capable of using it. If its a too and from work or store car, i would use gear lube. If its a higher end car, try atf. You might like it, you might not.

atf isnt such a bad thing in this area, gear oil can be hell to shift when its cold out. that being said, i beat the snot out of my cars so i always use gear oil regardless

1st. Not a track car. This is a daily driver.

I spoke with lots. Dealers, Trany shops, Parts stores. I got the whole gambut. But My gut feeling. I feel the best with 75w90 Full synth. Even at $10 a qauart. It will cost less the the 14 Quarts of Mercon V I put in my '03 Taurus (cap is 12 qts, 2 were wasted for the flush) . Even @ $10 IT will cost less to put that in is MTX than the MercV was for the Taurus.

                          It will
                          A. Not Be ATF
                          B. Not Gum up in the Winter.
                          c. Stick to the parts and prevent dry starts.

Once we fix this new Cylinder head gasket (and others that we remove to get to it). Install the new/correct Motor mounts. I will change the MTX Oil with 75w90 Full Synth.

The thread is not that old, just a few months so I do not consider it, "reviving it"...

Anyway, I have had my manual tranny for more than 4 years, to many it may seem moronic what is going to follow, but just as an FYI... I use 50% synthetic engine oil 40W and the other 50% 80W90 gear oil.

No problems in shifting or bad synchros, anyway there it is, proceed to shred me to pieces. It may be moronic or does not make any sense, hey all I know it works, shifting is smooth.
