I have no idea what im doing to my 323 (build)

welcome to my build. when i started this i got some negative reactions from another forum but maybe you guys/gals will understand.

its a base 1992 323 with 247xxxkms. its auto and its slow.

before i got this i had a monte carlo Z34 (mid 15 second car) its was not "fast" but it was ok, when i got the mazda i was a little disappointed but i decided that i will make it faster then the monte.

here it is when i bought it.

i got the car from my friends dads friend. he was going to send it to the JY because he got a 1993 pro in much better shape. he said the JY would give him $75 so i offered him $100.

since i got it i have done some things to it like ...

NGK plugs and wires (free from my friend)
silverstar light bulbs (also free from my friend)
new cap and rotor (also free)
simple tune up - $30(oil and air filter and seafoam)

    then came the bigger stuff
    new door interiors - $20
    rear garnish - $15
    body work - $30
MX3 seats and center console and rims and tires - $140
    new windshield - $240
    hood scoop - $10
doner grill to make badgeless grill - $5
muffler and clamp $2 (muffler was free)
random interior bits and tail light bulb - $5

    here are some current pics

was going to refinish and install these but i gave up. (i may finish them and sell them)

    (i am a pic whore )

plans are doing a 5spd swap and making a JY turbo setup untill i have money to get a bp or bpt.

i may be getting a parts car tomorrow (with a upper spoiler ) and its manual. the car is to rusted to be on the road so i cant just make that my project and swap everything over.

dude... it looks great! you've made some awesome progress... goodjob on the bodywork... don't understand where you could really get negative feedback. my only 'concern' is.. how functional us your hood scoop.. where does it lead. i haven't seen the engine bay for a while, but the air box isn't that far up there i don't think..

with your plans.. they sound great. the parts car will def help. i'd really suggest just 'saving' for a bp and do that instead of doing a jy turbo setup... i can only imagine you spending more than being able to gank a bp from an lx at the same yard... with harness... ecu... ya know..

good luck though. sounds like a good build

I think the scoop was to prodive more air to the HVAC system, though I thought the HVAC intake was on the passenger side?

Base model = B6 SOHC engine right? ****ty engine to try and boost, don't expect much power out of that. Furthermore, expect to blow your tranny in no time and probably your engine as well. Be smart, save for the BP, then turbo that later. This way you're still upgrading your powerplant but without the very real risk of blowing it and leaving you without a car.

this would be a good upgrade for the 323 and it will bring you in the 15 sec. it would be a good idea to swap a manual in there at the same time.

thanks for all the compliments, the hood scoop is not functional, it just leads to the wiper motor. i put it there because i thought it looked good.

Ya I think you should do a manual and BP swap at the same time like I'm doing on my 4wd it will make your car way more fun

do not run those, they will destroy your struts and your kidneys....

go with a proper drop spring if you're only wanting to spent a few $$ megan springs are decent with a 300f250r spring rate unlike the 450f350r those sleeve kits have.

while I wont disagree with you I will say eric neuman has spent the last like 8 years of his life on ebay coilovers (on his escort with 18s and nearly rubberband tires). and I believe his dd escort gt is also on these coilovers.... AND i believe he is putting them on his escort/protege... thing, ha ha.

All of that to say, to each his own... know they ride hard and upgraded struts are highly suggested, but you either love it or you hate it... personally I have not used them (not to say I never will try, currently my protege looking 4x4 ish and my budget is beyond tight).

I cringed when I saw the hood abomination, BUT the rest looks great, the way you started the post I feared I would scroll down to see a krylon orange interior with krylon orange exterior accents. not too shabby!

i hate painted interiors so you will never see that on my 323. the hood scoop is a love hate thing, i love it others hate it it dosnt bother me. i think i will get the ebay ones for now, until i have money for proper suspension upgrades. i think they are better then just cutting my old coils.

for a cheap suspension on a budget try some drop zone lowering springs and some KYB GR2's. I put them on my MX-3 when I had it and they worked perfectly for someone on a budget like me.
