that could have happened. My 94 Aspire tranny finally failed after a 400 mile round trip. Got off the highway and the tranny sounded like rocks being thrown around in a tin can, 4th gear no longer works. So, instead of buying a 400 dollar tranny at the junkyard I drove 350 miles to Baltimore to buy my new 92 Protege LX 5spd (for $370 :D).. Man am I loving this car, so much better than the Aspire. I would say on par with my 94 Miata. So now all the good parts from the Aspire are going to be going onto my soon to be Festiva race car (its been waiting for this moment since it began sitting in my drive way) So yea.. I zoom zoom boom and it was great.
