Yes they are legal in FL. I have a Cobra 9***. I dont remember the exact model number and im at wrk right now so i cant look. Its saved me from quite a few tickets. I can say that ive gotten 2 tickets even with it in my car mainly because my music was too loud and i didnt notice it going off. Shortly after getting those tickets i relocated it so it would be directly in my line of sight. Havent gotten a speeding ticket since. Woohoo!!

Mine is an Older Cobra too 6700 i think..... but it doesn't work as well as it did when it was new anymore..... dunno if this is common with radar detectors. that they have a short lifespan. i have heard other people wonder about this before ..

radio shack top of the line model with voice, 8 directions compass, and x, k, ka, laser, vg2, ultralyte (sp?) and sws warnings with individual sound for each and signal strength monitor. it works very well IMHO (just ask vlad). i did get two tickets with it, both times from a laser. it used to pick up laser well but that was before i dropped. both tickets came after that. in any case, you can't really escape or slow down fast enough if you were caught by a laser.

speaking of scanners, i need to get mine finished dima...... LOL
I can't go out to watch street races with the assumption the scanner is working coz i hear nothing about cops coming, and then end up seeing lights in the distance.....

i sold the cable that i build to somebody. my scanner is not programmed either. i need to build another cable, was hoping to do that over the winter break but never got around to it. you need to find frequencies that you are interested in like lets say, boca fire, or pbso, ftlpd. then i can programm your scanner to "your" specs but after i make the cable. on mine i just listen to pines fd, broward cities cops, bso, and news channel helicopters. btw, if you got a mono audio cable that you don't need, i need it to make the programming cable.

I paid about $100 for mine too. I have the 9210. I tinted my windows after I got the radar detector and i didnt notice much of a difference. If you get a tint that contains alot of metals (reflective tint) or if its really dark it might interfere though.

I posted this on the other board (and I would probably go over there and do a search on radar detector since there were two threads there with a lot of excellent informantio), but... since it is my post I can swipe it and post it here:

                              A. a radar detector is not going to save your ass if you're on the front of the line... instant on radar is just that , instant on. What you can hope for is that it gives you a blip if the car in front gets nailed.

                              B. when dealing with laser, you're pretty much screwed. If you have a laser detector then you might on a very off chance get a reading if the car in front of you is hit with it (chances are also better at night as the signal to noise ratio on the photodiode is better)... but for the most part when it goes off you better hope you were under the limit the cop had set for the day

So, do I used one? Yup. I have for over 10 years... Has it saved my butt?... Yes, a few times, when I was not paying as much attention as I should have been and going with the flow. When I was driving stupid fast, that's when I got caught... no radar/laser detector was going to save my butt on those days.

Now... is one unit better than the others? I have not definitive proof either way... but I run a Valentine One on the glass... why? from what I know about it, my opinion is that its design has a much more sensitive RF receiver than the others. I have no idea about the laser aspects of it. And before I get flammed for my opinions, please take into account that I work with and design microwave communications equipment for a living.
