might as well add me to the list too

damn my first bp. been through a couple of FS's. i had the timing retarded for quite some time and i didnt hear any pinging but there would be a like sputter arond 80mph at 4k or higher since i did it. butif you eased into it you could hit WOT and itd be fine. anyway i was running the car rather hard against a bunch of hondas, whose asses i raped btw. all of them. but in the end i went up against a new si and i must have hit like 145 or 150 cuz the needle was at 6 o clock and then i looked up in my rear view and saw smookeeeeeeeee . right before that i smelled oil. i pulled over checked the plugs and cylinder 3 was shot. so i guess its something in the bottom end. should i just take a spare piston and rod nd throw it in there? and is this easy to do if u drop the pan and remove the head, so you can leave the motor in there?

    =(

That all depends how the cylinder went. If the rod bearings went you should get a new connecting rod, bearings and crank. If the piston itself is damaged you should get the cylinder walls re-honed or sleeved or something. Otherwise the thing will go boom again...

just so ya know, if you still have them 195/50s on the speedos showing about 10% or more higher than your speed, if it was straight down if it was around say, 140, it was actually 130 ....just to give you an idea....

blew apart a valve< the zero compression come from all the are escaping out the port where the vlve should be, and the oil is from the now wreck valve stem seal let oil in.

do a leak down and see where the air is going before you waste money on parts

is a leak down pretty much just putting air into the cylinders one at a time at TDC and open the throttle body and see if you hear air ? then moving it or something so the exhaust valve opens and u check the muffler to see if u hear air? and then you repeat the process on the rest of them?

since you know the problem is cyl 3, set that one to top dead center and blow compressed air in that cylinder. huaranteed you will find some air moving somewhere.

air in intake stream= intake valve
air in exhaust stream- exhaust valve
                        air in crankcase= piston problem

for that one all you ned to do is remove the oil fill cap and hear if the air comes out there. check it out and let us know what you find.
