putting a BP 1800 lump in morris minor

    Hello

Please excuse my ignorance , i am a old school mechanic and truggling with the black magic of ECU,s and management systems . Really need some ideas and advice on the following ....

I have fitted a 1997 BP MX5 engine and manual gearbox to a morris minor and Just trying to finish the wiring and have some problems matching the supplied ECU with the loom . Maybe i have the wrong ECU ?. Everything seems to work but i have no spark at the plugs?
The ECU has part no,s BPU2B at top of label then big letters BPU2
    seperate label with E G I BPS9 18 881B .
The loom has a 3 socket plug to connect into this 3 socket ECU , most colours do match with a 1997 wiring diagram i downloaded .
I read somewhere that the 3 plug ECU is for Automatic cars only ??
The 1997 wiring diagram does show 2 Heated oxygen sensors but the pins are blank on this ECU ???
Any help please , much apprerciated.
also correct ECU part numbers .
I am considering junking all the electronics and driving a traditional dizzy off the cam output , anyone done this ?

    Cheers all

Well you stated that you have a 3 socket ecu and 3 socket plug I am pretty sure this is a wiring harness from a automatic car. Someone else may be able to help more but I think that has something to do with it. PLEASE DO NOT TRUST ME THOUGH JUST A GUESS. On another note. Please post, or find someone to post pictures of your car because I love Morris Minors!

I would really love to see pics of this car!! What year BP do you have?
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Oh and by the way that shot in your banner with Vin Diesel's car getting shot, thats a civic not an altezza.

OP: On the Protege's the 3 plug ECU is from an auto, the 2 plug is from a manual. I'm not sure if mx5's are the same though.

The wiring diagrams show the same 3 plug ECU for both Automatic and manual transmissions.
My problem seems to be that the 1997 wiring diagram shows a few items my motor and supplied wiring loom/ECU does not have ? and im not sure if i need them ??
i.e Crank position sensor , the after catalytic converter heated oxygen sensor , EGR boost sensor . etc
Im suspicious that the breaker has mixed up his parts and sent me the incorrect loom and ECU ?
Would love to know the correct ECU part number for my engine ? if anyone knows ??
Its a UK spec 1997 mazda MX5 1800 BP , or that what the breaker said , it has BP on caseing.
I will put pics up when car fully painted and running .
          cheers

it sounds like you must have a 95 or older BP, as all the "missing" parts you mention are things that were added in 96 with OBD2

              you could be right ?
i have ordered and fitted a cam belt service kit for a 1997 BP ? maybe they are the same as pre 96 ?
I was told the raised cast lettering on the cam cover is proof of a 1997 model too ?
              cheers

i mean there could be differences between US and UK, i have no way to know about that. the valvecovers from 94-97 are all the same here.

cam belts are the same from 89-97.

Since the motor is from a MX-5 (Miata), you'd probably have the best luck asking on the Miata Forums.

Here is a good forum to start with for a little more detailed knowledge of your car.

Cheers! (And post those pics ASAP! )
I peered out from the castle window and looked over the splendor of ROTM county. Yes, twas' a much simpler time back then. Peasants would go about their postings, and I, the mod, would rule over them with an iron fist.

                          thankyou guys

havent a clue on the weight , its a slight dilema because i wanted a working classic van that can be loaded up with whatever , but also the set up and handling of a modern car .
Its no racer , just a bit of fun with good handling , superb brakes and a little more poke than a little 1098 cc A series .

Should be fun, even if you set it up with more of a race suspension for fun you should still be able to haul a lot of stuff.

                              Honestly, MiataTurbo.net

They may help or MazdaForums on the Miata section.

By the way, the little van like it is so far looks amazing, cant wait to see the end product, please keep us posted with pics after paint job and if you wish work in progress.

                              Thanks for sharing
