    Blacky's Back!!

This is the car that started me down the escort path years ago. It's a 1991 EGT with a BPT and set up for roadracing. I can't tell you how many engines we went through (3 I think) trying to get the N/A ecu to work for roadracing with Super AFC's, map clamps, bigger injectors, extra injectors, rising rate fuel setups...Then we just got the correct ECU and could run for hours on end. The car is gutted, caged (it's getting re-done), has a fiberglass hood, no headlights/grill (has a false front), custom dash with full assortment of gauges, has tockico 5 way adjustable Chevy Camaro struts (highly modified to fit), Haltech management now, custom wiring harness, swaybars, and stock brakes with dimpled/slotted rotors, hawk pads, short throw shifter, urethane bushings through out, custom steering column...

It's going to be converted to a back-up rallycar for the customer I just finished the other car for. It's getting a new cage, carbon hatch/lexan, the motor's coming out and it's getting a 10.5 to 1 N/A motor, real doors, quick release steering wheel/hub, front skidplate braces, tubular rear arms, new wheels and tires.

The turbo in this car has a bolt on flange for the cold air intake pipe that goes up to the air cleaner...All the bpt's I've seen have a rubber boot that clamps on down there---could this be a GTR motor??? It was bought as a JDM motor through a Los Angeles Importer...

Take a pic of the exhaust manifold and we would be able to tell if it's a GTR. Nice car by the way!

These pics aren't good---not even sure why I'm posting them, but maybe someone will recognize something until I pull the motor/cover off the turbo...
First one is from underneath looking a the charge pipe.

The next 2 are from the top...

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

The motor's going in my touring car build---I just wondered why the thing was so much quicker than the other bpt's---It made like 209whp at 10lbs of boost with an aluminum flywheel and a straight 2 1/2" exhaust...I'm guessing the bottom end on these are stronger/safer for 250whp in the endurance roadrace series we're gonna run??

bottom end has way bigger rods...than the gtx, uppwards of 400 whp is not a problem...that motor was built specifically for the mazda 323 gtr rallycross that mazda started in the early 90's late 80's.... the motor has sodium filled exhaust valves a more effecient intake manifold/exhaust manifold and a ballbearing turbo good for around close to the upper 300s whp .....if you didnt know

Thanks guys---good to know. I'm stuck at the 245 to 250hp range because of the rules---should be easy with 15lbs of boost or so...I'm wondering how the KIA trans (with KAAZ diff) is going to hold up at a 24 hour event with like say 19 shifts a lap for 605-620 laps.

you should be ok for quite a while at that power level. i put 10k miles on my stock trans with between 240 and 275hp. everything in that trans is still fine, except for the stock open diff. dozens of 1/4 mile passes.

it really seems to be right around 300hp where things start to have "problems"

Especially not launching and a lightweight stripped car - the Kia tranny will be good to go. I have close to 10k fairly hard miles on mine without issues.

Finally some work on this car! We got the rally rear control arms built/machined with rod ends and then flipped the bolts around/drilled out the tiebar and then bolted home. This car should get put together over the next few days...
