Hi, kinda a sob story, had a scort 91gt and picked up a bpt to put in it. Ran outta time/money and sold everything to 91sleeper on feoa. Anyway, hunting for a good commuter, I found an 88 323 hatch with 117k orig. She needs a little help, already replaced rt rear wheel bearings and leaky radiator, (swapped smaller plastic core for bigger brass/copper core) and now I need to do the exhaust. Some home job with bad welds and holes in the toner. I was offered "free reign" on a mid-late 90s 626. Normally not so interested but I noticed a stick where an automatic would normally be. From what I have researched, this is the dohc 2.0 f series engine, with 5spd as found in a Probe? Was running good untill it got into an accident. Engine tranny+swap into bf 323? Has it been done (yes, I used the search button) and how hard, what parts would I need? Of course, engine, trans, ecu, harness. What about drive shafts? Length/spline config to fit hubs, or saying f it and going all out 5 lug swapping over struts/shocks too. Ideas?

the FE3 was a 2.0L motor which could be found in the BF's in south africa.
Uncommon to find the bolt in bits, but you can if you try hard enough.
speak with nitrogen323 on mx6.com he can give you heaps loads more info on the swap---Has ClubProtege helped you in someway? show your support by Contributing--- Click Here---

Well, I don't know how easy it is to get a hold of an FE3, but I do have a 95 626 manual at my disposal. You say the FS-DE is a buzzy engine? Hmmmm.....As far as I can tell the engine is a bolt in affair, just a question on drive shafts/CVs. I broached the subject of doing a full 5 lug swap from a probe/626 on a 91 EGT, but on the BF chassis, I would have to check on strut heights but on observation, it looks feasible. Input?

Yeah, FS 2.0 deffinitely not an upgrade, my 03 vibrates like a sex toy in the morning till its warm. The kia sportages used FE3's, but its a chore to round up all the parts beyond that. If I was going to do anything it would be the B6T if not that then the B6ZE (capri miata) then a BP. But if I could get a BPT all bets are off. The junkyards are full of NA capri's and if you pull from an auto you'll get 9:1 compression so its safe for the B6T turbo setup to be bolted on. (I'm using a B6ZE auto in my 323GT, long nose too).88 323 GT - 03 Protege5 - 07 Mazda 5

I live on the northern end of the I-5 corridor and for some reason capris NA or otherwise are scarce. Miata's too. Ideally, a b6ze would be the bee's knees, doing all of the work to the head to make it fwd compatable. Oh yes, but once again availability. So the 2.0 is definately out of the question due to popular vote. Well, any more suggestions would be awesome. I have already done a bit of work to this car just to bring it up to dependable status, just looking for a bit more oompf.

Don't know if anyone is still watching this thread, but I have done some research on the FE3 motor and boy, for a high hp power plant, this would be a fantastic candidate. Engine seems to be built to handle diesel pressures (17 to 1) so the block/crank/rods could definately handle some serious boost. But the problems arising from the FE3 engine from the kia is flattened cams, detuned ECU, and head gasket configuration, from what I understand the headgasket is set up for a rwd coolant config, like the miata 1.6 vs the protege/capri 1.6. This could lead to coolant problems if not addressed properly. Anyone done this swap and dealt with this problem? Also, tranny compatability? Thanks.
