Zetrionix says lean at idle, but wrong?

Okay so I have a PNP megasquirt unit that lex built. I have not messed with the tuning yet other than scaling the injectors for 460cc. Here are the issues I am experiencing:

    1. At idle according to my wideband the car is running super lean at 21. However the car starts fine so I don't know if it is reading wrong. If I rev the car up to say 7000 rpms, I can watch a steady curve on my display as the a/f richens up to about 12.5. So my wideband appears to be working, but should the car be able to run if it was really a 21 a/f rate at start up and idle? I do notice some noise on the rpm signal where you see spikes on the graph up to like 22000 rpms but I think its just noice or a loose connection because I haven't soldered any of the widebands wires yet.

    2. I checked my spark plugs and 1/4 are turning black and wet, but 2/3 are really clean. I am going to check my distributor tonight to make sure I have the right firing order set up. Could this have anything to do with my car saying its lean at idle?

if you are running SUPER rich, the wideband will read lean when it comes in contact with raw fuel. this will also kill the sensor pretty quickly.

    did you calibrate the wideband?

This guy sounds like he has the exact same issue.

The zeitronix wideband is self calibrating

Been doing some googling (really should be working), but maybe this is the issue; I have a temperary down pipe about 2 foot long, then it is about a 80 degree bend, then a cherry bomb muffler about 48" then the sensor right on the end before the opening. Again this is a temporary setup till the car was running. Could it being so close to open air be causing the super lean read, and then when it is under additional flow from the car being revved up causing it to read right?

^exactly, can't do that. Install the sensor much closer to the engine so that no fresh air can come in contact with it. A small exhaust leak will make it read lean so obviously open air will do too.

Haven't had it out on the road yet, maybe tonight if I am lucky. It idles okay just need to check it for leaks. Also missing the check valve for my brake booster so I have to find a new one of those. I am hoping to at least get it out on the road once or twice this year before the snow flys.

Just to finish up this post incase anyone ever searches for it:

Spark plug 1 and 4 were black and 2 and 3 were clean because I had two spark plug wires reversed on my distributor.

Car idles a lot better, and has all its power back. I took it for a quick spin tonight...no tail lights and a coolant hose busted, so about 1/8th of a mile. Still its official I finally have my BP+T festiva I always wanted. Now to square away the suspension I want, fix the paint, and I will be a happy boy come spring.

It has to be redone. Pictures hide how bad my first attempt at painting really was. I am going to try practicing wet sanding on it. Then I will sand it all down and maybe get a experienced friend to repaint it.

Car is getting resprayed sometime right after Christmas by a proffesional this time, so it will be all smooth and sexy for Festiva Madness 4 next october. I would really like to make it to a mazda meet. Anyone know when/where the next one will be next summer?
