AUTOX SEASON 2004: The official thread

Hello friends, club members and racing enthusiasts,
Here's some latest news for you regarding Autocrossing here in our neck of the woods.... (Rich, i'm really sorry but you'll be a bit pissed)
Please note that new membership forms have been made so if you are interested in saving $5 at each event by becoming an ER member, please see me and i'll give you one to fill out or visit the website at http://autox.carlc.com to print one out.

The Hollywood Greyhound Track has agreed to rent ER and SCCA their parking lots for our first three events:
Sunday Feb. 8th, Sunday March 14th and Sunday April 18th.
On Thursday 1/22 the deal is to be signed for these dates to be set in stone.

However, three lots were requested but they will only give us two. One for autox and one for pits. They will also NOT allow us to autox from one lot to another lot. Their concern is the barriers between the lots. This is cast in stone and can't be changed.

Hollywood has made it clear that if there are cars that are too loud or if the events produce any problems, we will not be invited back. So if anyone sees anything that they feel is jeopardizing the Hollywood venue and will prevent us from returning, feel free to inform an official or go ahead and tell the guilty party to stop or leave. You will be backed up by ER and the SCCA so don't be afraid to step up.

There are many nice perks that Hollywood is offering though:
Free access to their clubhouse, bathrooms, restaurants, food trailer at the AX site, bar after the event, indoor room with bar for trophy presentation, etc.
We have talked with many other lots and think we should go for this even if it isn't the size we wanted. It gives us three months more time to arrange other autox sites in the area.

As for Hialeah, their comment is still the same: "we don't want to rent our lots for car racing anymore". They said we didn't do anything wrong but higher ups decided this.

So good luck to everyone this racing season and I hope to see many more familiar faces at the events.
Feel free to ask questions, and don't forget to check the ER website for autocross news, info, points standings, pictures and more.

    Regards,
    Vlad

True, as long as nothing breaks so that the drive back is not that bad either LOL
I have been planning to run the Ft. Myers event for some time now but crap keeps hitting the fan and i can't make it (at least not in my car for now).
Its a great track on the Saturday test 'n' tune day and you get a lot of good affordable seat time..... any one like to share their racecar w/ me so that i can run over there to practice?

hopefully they will still hold events at gulfcoast by the time i have my new motor + tranny.... j/k i'll get my Devl sorted out soon.

**** Some more info regarding events ****

          - As far as I know, you don't have to be 18+ to compete, as long as a parent signs a waiver letting you run... also having a valid driving license helps. LOL
Don't know about running on a learners permit.

          - It costs $30 to run, but if you become a member (of either ER or SCCA) you get $5 off at each event.

          - According to SCCA rules that we follow, it is illegal to charge autocross spectators to watch the events... so feel free to come out and watch even if you decide not to participate.
The more spectators, the better... but please observe all rules and traffic laws inside and around the Hollywood Greyhound Dog Track premises.
Please be sure to read the Track Rules for this event site @ http://autox.carlc.com/news.htm

Feel free to ask any questions you guys and girls may have....

          Vlad

P.S. the Info Flyer for the Feb. 8th event as well as the new membership form will be available online soon for you to print out and fill out before the events. Or just ask me for either ones, i always have spares with me....

the practice couse is nothing special. Mid 30 second course that stays the same each month. You'll get more runs, but it's still nothing great.

Sundays you only get 4 runs, but the course is typically 75 seconds or so. It's also a very good tool in learning to look ahead, since you WILL NOT be able to memorize the course.
