GI: Ford Escort Carbon Fiber Doors

OK---so we've had carbon fiber hatch's made and sold a few, we've sold a few carbon fiber hoods---both the invader style and the oem style. So far everyone's been pleased with the quality---it's certainly not perfect, but decent and even better than many of the items I saw at the track this weekend.

Now I've been asked to have some carbon fiber doors made---I contacted the same folks above and they said sure why not...The molds are more, but the gentleman has been kind enough to split them with me this time!!! So with all of this said, I'm looking for some straight doors, and sometime soon (probably by next month) if all goes well, we'll be able to offer CF doors for the 91-96 ford escorts...It looks like they will sell for around $800 for the pair plus tax/shipping (shipping looks to be under $200---I can ship a hatch/hood combo for that so I'm guessing 2 doors wont be any different).

So if I do the math correctly and round up is there anyone in their right minds who would pay about $1075 for a pair of Carbon doors for the escort??? Just trying to gauge interest...

If they would take all the hardware that the stock doors could, so I could still have power windows, and I could come up with the money for it, I would be down for a pair.

It kills me to no longer have a GT when there's so much cool stuff being made now.

not to start anything.. but something along the lines of this could be more beneficial i think to the bg crowd... doors are interchangable between the protege sedan and 323 hatch. Escort, is escort.. but.. also, many people are into these cars under a slim budget... wether or not that has anything to do with this stuff.

i'd love to set some (dreaming) if they were made for bg lol... would all the mounting holes and such line directly up to the chassis and mounting hardware?... whats the inner frame gonna be made out of if at all?

You're making me want to go out and buy a escort gt and then use the protege as a beater . Definetly wondering if all the stock hardware can be used(harnesses for power windows, regulators, ectect)

I hadn't even really though about whether power windows would still work or not...The doors we sell for the 350Z have provisions for everything---I guess these would too. Not much in the way of side impact protection---that's what the cage is for!!! I guess these would be more of a race application---you'd save an easy 50lbs (probably more) from the stock stuff...

there aren't many dedicated track slut projects out there. Most are for straight line crap. This would come in handy for them. But i believe those i'm thinking of qualify under the Tuner category or something like that, and don't require a cage. They are also driven to the track instead of trailer queens (which is kick @$$ imo). Something for a dedicated race application... they're not that many out there. But i know there are some to get your moneys worth nonetheless...

btw, i'd be all over cf door w/ lexan windows and sliders.

I know---the S2000 and 350Z doors are like $2000 for the set and this is about as cheap as I could find/have made---the molds aren't cheap either so breaking even on these is going to take forever...

i wonder what kind of times i could run by just swapping out all my glass for lexan and running a CF hood, hatch, and doors. it'd be out of my price range but man... that would be a BIG weight drop.

what about just fiberglass doors? the material is less expensive, and weighs not much more than a cf piece would... still be a great advantage to having alloy pieces

The CF doors and hatch's/hoods I sell are fiberglass with a CF cloth on the top. The difference in price between the two is very minimal---a dollar a foot or maybe even less than that...wouldn't make a difference to the fabricators...
