Turbo Escort GT on the podium!!!

Despite getting hit/spun by a Camaro/Mustang Challenge car Piercemotorsports Driver Jim Woods in his 3RD event ever put the 159Hp Turbo Escort GT on the podium despite being down a hundred HP to the field!!! After the Dodge SRT4 driven by US Touring car driver Greg Greenbaum went off and had mechanical (broke transmission) issues, Jim went in pursuit of the second place RX8 only to be hit/spun towards the middle of his race. Finishing 3rd in the field with minor damage would suffice the hard work put in by everyone over the weekend!!

That's awesome! Are you guys limited in some way, is that why you've only got 160hp? Seems like if you're racing against SRT4s and Rx8s, the governing bodies would let you up the boost, right?

Edit: Wait a minute. I thought you guys were racing Improved Touring, but you're in Perf. Touring, which is why you can legally turbocharge a car that was not from the factory. But I still don't get why the low hp numbers. I can't find my 07 rule book, but I see that a new change for 09 is the legal use of E85. That would be good for at least 10 more hp on the setup you're currently running in timing changes alone, wouldn't it?

BTW, 265s on an Escort FTW!!! You have to tell us how you made those fit!!

We leave the boost at 4.5lbs for the new driver---he's leaving 4-5 seconds on the table compared to a more seasoned driver---he picks up 2 seconds when we put the boost back to stock which seems to spike to about 12lbs (206hp) causing some occasional detonation even on race gas...The goal for him this year was to get up to speed, get off his provisional license (which he did), and not hurt the equipment...so far so good. He's only about 2 seconds a lap behind the US Touring car Mini---and I'm about 2 seconds a lap quicker than the mini, so he's "growing into it".

              Congrats on the podium finish.

Have you considered going to a meth/water injection kit? It will really help with detonation so you will be able to safely run 12psi.
I don't know if there are provisions against a meth injection kit in your race class but it could possibly be beneficial to your car.
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Are you guys running the regulation 265mm tires?? I think that's the max size for PTB IIRC. I wanna know what you had to do to get that kinda rubber under the car.

Haven't thought about water injection---We should be able to run with the stock boost levels (or slightly below) with a little tinkering---not really a priority yet until he can use up whats there.

The car is classed as a PTD car with the motor swap so the 265mm tires would cost us some points. Were using a 225x40x15 Hoosier A6 currently and we had to do a little bit of work in the back to make them clear---the Ksports helped quite a bit. The new car I'm building will run a 245 all the way around and it's a nightmare amount of work in the back to get the ride height I want...

Oh, my bad, I thought your video said you were running in Perf Touring B. I was wondering how you kept the straight fender in the back with those huge ass tires lol!

We are running the car in Perf touring b---the car gets classed to D with the engine swap, then you take the mod points and we end up in B---the D class tire size is 245mm, so for us to use the 265mm we'd take more points. Sorry for the confusion...

That looks like tons of fun! Congratulations. When the driver is ready for more boost, the MS will let you play with timing to avoid any detonation.

Hey Lex---you know I've tried to sell him the unit I bought from you---but he isn't sure he's going to continue with this car---I did just sell the unit to the rally escort customer---but he's N/A so we'll need another map (n/a).

I'm wondering why the motor cuts out a 5k rpm with stock boost/all the stock components other than the freeflow exhaust...unless it's the freeflow exhaust causing it to overboost and the ECU is protecting the motor.

He was able to run at Cal Speedway when it was over a 100 degrees outside for an entire weekend in the full boost mode (stock 9-10lbs with spikes to 12lbs)---at the last two cooler events at buttinwillow, we tried for it in practice and it was cutting out after 2 laps he said. We ended up running our leaky audi bypass valve and we were good at 4.5lbs...

I'll eventually need another unit from you for my car---if I ever get it finished---It's tough to find time/money right now and I have a World Challenge Touring Car class Volvo deal brewing for next year...My plan was to finish the car last month/run the 25 hour next but I'm not even close...My kids will have a great Christmas though and I wont have the stress!!!
