    alternator question

so i have a B6 alternator in good condition on my car right now. i was thinking about trying to use it on my klde. the plugs match up and plug in, however mounting it would be the issue. does anyone know if they are swappable?

would it even have enough power? lol

if the plugs and connections work, I would say you are good to go. These are internally regulated alternators so all you have to look for is a solid output voltage. Now, as per the question of needing anoter one, usually the cause of a "bad" alternator is bearings and brushes. If the bearings are good, not noisy or grinding, then you can replace the brushes (usually) from a similar unit. I have done this before (grassroots to the core) using brushes from a toyota celica alternator for a honda accord. They were both similar Nippon Denso units, just different housings. You used to be able to rebuild alternators but it is hard to resource just bearings and brushes anymore. Take a look. In actuallity, your alternator is a 3-phase generator that goes through a 3-phase rectifier and then a voltage regulator to produce DC current. If it produced DC (using a commutator instead of slip rings) it would be a generator, but it produces AC, alternating current, hence the alternator title.

thanks for all the input guys.

i think i may give it a shot before i crack down and buy one. does anyone know if the brackets are different? they look to be but i cant tell 100% because the B6 is still in the car.

MX3 alt is 90 amp. Run 1 if you can because thhe BP alt is only 60 or 65(I think the b6 and BP are the same)

Or the S2 RX7 90A Alternator will work with the RX7 alt bolt and using your original pulley. IIRC, it's a 90A rating.
