    323 4x4 swap?

i have a gtx. runs drives great but unfortunatly its entirely rotted out to the point where the doors wont shut when one end is jacked up im just wondering what it takes to put the 4x4 driveline in a 2wd chassis. is it a simple bolt in or would i need to fab some mouts ect... ?

What he said. Not to say it isn't possible, look at the write up by Rocketman to get an idea of what's involved.

alright thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys. basically i figured fab work for putting the 4x4 in a clean fwd chassis will be easier than making new rockers and trailing arm mounts:S

well the thing is capris were never a factory awd car so i could see more fab being nessicary. i would be taking the driveline from my gtx and swapping it in to another 323 hatch. i could see having to make a mount for the drive shaft other than that i dont see a need for any other fab work or hacking floor pans. there seems to be ample room above the 2wd rear subframe for the rear diff and drilling holes to mount the 4x4 rear subframe was a givin considering the 4 inch difference in mounting locations between the two. has anyone done this swap that you know of?

the floor pans are completely different than the 4x4 pans. it will be just as much work as the capri swap.

the entire firewall is different, the floorpan has a bigger tunnel in the 4wd, the 4wd has a stronger chassis to hold the driveshaft support. if you already have a 4wd then y dont you just keep it that way

I think the engine bay size is totally different in the 2wd hatch too. AZGTX has a FSM with measurements.

Grab some rockers from a 2wd and weld them in. If you have a 4wd try to concentrate on fixing it. There are enough minute differences to make a big difference in converting.
