    Stuck Suspension Bolt

    hey,

ive just been installing new suspension into my 1989 Mazda Familia GT 2wd and ive done the front and rear left without issue and i got to litiraly the last bolt left to remove for the entire job, the bolt at the bottom of the rear strut.

    its completly stuck.

i have had to cut and replace a couple of bolts and i knew this was the case with the problem bolt so i have a replacement ready. so i cut off the head expecting it to slide out like the 2 others i cut. however this one just stay stuck and i mean REALLY stuck ive used plenty or penetrating oil and pulled and banged it more than enough and it hasnt moved one bit.

im really hopeing someone has had the same problem and has a way around it because its going to be very hard for my to find a replacement suspension arm that this bolt runs through.

and if its important, the bolt runs though a rubber bushing and is NOT threaded. its just a rod through a hole and there shouldn't be any reason why its not moving.

    thanks in advance,
    Josh

My only suggestion would be to get a pin and mallet and tap it out... but it sounds like it may be beyond that. If you're changing the struts anyway, try some heat?

Ive tried hitting it with a hammer and with a smaller bolt, so essentially a pin. and then i got the torch but i cant get any decent heat without melting the rubber bushings.

You talking about that long damn bolt at the very bottom of the assembly, that's like 6-8" long?

Put a jack underneath it and jack up the knuckle a bit and try again. I found the only way to reattach the trailing arm was to have the car on the ground or jack up that corner.

No i think that long bolt your thinking of is in the same area and does the same thing but its for the BG series. and in the end i just melted out the bushing and installed Nolathane replacements, as after some research is was pretty convinced these bolts often rest solid to the shim.

i just had this issue on my car last weekend when i swapped to rear disc's.

it took ALOT of work, a MAP gas torch, and alot of hammering to get it. if it wasnt for the ****ty rusted in place bolts, i would have done the entire swap in a day. but the rusted bolts turned that into a full weekend of work

yup haha it took me all of 15 minutes to install the front suspension and the rear left and 2 days for the rear right. funnily enough it seems we used the same method, gas torch and a hammer,

heat the bolt till its red, and let it cool a few times, itll usually let go of the sleeve and come out eventually.....

you cant do that when the bolt is surrounded by rubber, not if you want to keep the rubber that is
