Help with building up a hybrid turbo...

Hey guys. I was trying to get a turbo built (rebuilt) but because the m323p.com website went down, I haven't been able to access my old PMs to get a hold of the other member that I was going to have do the work. I would hope that he's on this forum, but I don't know for sure. I'll do some checking. In the meantime, if there's anybody else out there that rebuilds turbos and wants to make some money, please let me know.

    Thanks.

    Larry

Sicksicksix or whatever his name was is from the MX6 boards. You can probably still find him there.

    1988 White GTX - #1 parts
1988 Black GTX - #2 reliably broken touge monstar (294,000 miles no rebuilds) - dead
1988 Blue GTX - #3 in progress (view here)
1988 Blue GTX - #4 BPT swapped weekend warrior.
    1988 White GTX - #5 Rally car

I'll try to find him on the MX-6 forum....

What turbo? VJ-11 cold-side. VJ-14 hot-side. That way, it's supposedly an easy bolt-on to the exhaust system with no mods and the the cold-side is supposed to be pretty easy to re-hook-up also. The VJ-11 cold-side is supposed to be a little bit larger (not much which is fine with me). I'm interested in a little bit of gain in HP potential, but don't want to hurt the drive-ability of my daily.....

I figure I'm getting closer to needing my current turbo rebuilt anyway, so if I can collect the pieces necessary to build up a spare turbo and have it ready to drop in, I can limit the "down-time" of my car. I'm trying to get my spare exhaust mani fixed up also as well as a new downpipe. If everything goes the way I hope, I'll be able to take care of all three things all at once. Wouldn't that be cool!

rebuilding them is super easy if you have the right tools. if your mechanically inclined it should be a breeze, only thing ill say is if you have anyone who can soda blast the center section its way faster to get done than waiting for oven cleaner to break it all down, either work well tho....aside from that just marking the shaft and the blades so theyre both easy to align when putting it back together, or if you have the time send the shaft and wheel to be balanced first and theyll mark it for you....

The wheels and shaft assembly MUST be balanced. You should port your wastegate while you have it apart.

its cheap, its a good idea, but only really necesssary if the shaft and wheel hit anything, have any chip, scrape, dent, or anything that hints it may need it.... for 10 bucks you should do it, i didnt but i wanted to learn and try it, ive got about 8k on this turbo so far since i rebuilt it... and it runs strong..... also dont over port the wg hole, or to much air will pass and slow the turbine down, and make spooling take longer....

Putting a nickle over the WG hole and marking a thin line is what I have done to mine. Get a grinding ball and go at it...about a hour and it's done.

Give me a call Larry, let me know what you have parts wise and I can tell you what we need to get you into a rebuilt hybrid. I also have some spare housings and parts around if you still are looking for parts.

Awesome. Looking for a spare "hot-side" of the VJ-14. I have a complete VJ-11. Then, I need to have it rebuilt which I might try on my own. We'll see.

You got a spare hot-side to the VJ-14?
