    Here is Mine

So a couple of weeks ago I left my house for work, and didn't really let the car warm up the temp outside was a cool 25 degrees F. I drive from my house to the main road which is less then a 1/4 of a mile, pulled out onto the main road first... second... third.. got on it and ... boost cut. by the time my foot came off the throttle from the boost cut, the engine wasn't running, but the car was rolling and I was hearing a lot of rattling noises. Stuffed the clutch pedal in and hit the car and it fired up missing a cylinder and still making a lot of rattling noise. Drove it back to the house in which case smoke was poring out of the hood (no fire just burning oil that was all over everything) no time to really check it out, hopped into the other car and went to work. Within the next couple of days, I trailered the car to work and pulled the engine and tranny. When I took the tranny away from the engine the bell housing was full of oil and metal pieces. I didn't get a lot of pics and sorry the pics that I have are camera phone pics but here is the carnage after dis-assembly. I do have another block and crank and have already ordered pistons and rods, it is also a good thing that I work at a shop that has a full engine machine shop so I can get everything back together.
    On with the pics.

I do have to say that this engine has served me well. I bought this engine 6+ years ago and has been in 3 different cars including the one that it was in when it went. It was a stock GTX bottom end in which I had put new rings in it when I got it. It has been through plenty of abuse including revlimiter AWD cookies (doughnuts) multiple times. It went big but I did drive it home, but wasn't really doing anything interesting when it happened :-). I know I know don't get on it until it's warmed up but sh!t happens. Car under car cover isn't anything special (almost 8 second 1/4 mile 69 chevelle if your into that sort of thing) Any who, the new block is getting weisco pistons, eagle rods, arp head and main studs. The valves did hit that piston so a head job is in the works to, but nothing fancy cause the budget isn't going to allow it (wife)
Hopefully it doesn't take to long to get it back on the road though cause my other AWD is a slug and rides like crap

What's the story with breaking that forged rod in the FS?

Nice zoom zoom boom. The motor has served you well indeed. The damage was done over time, not just the morning it blew. The metal in the rods weakened over time until it needed just enough load to let go. How many miles were on the motor?

With the new motor, all you'll have to worry about is the gearbox.

eagle rods are retardly heavier then most all other H beam's on the market.
I strongly advise away from them.
"M-tuned" rods are in @ ~430g Which is still about 30 grams lighter then the now market flooding china products- which are all lighter then eagle rods.

it failed. lol. my theory is oil pump failure. but dunno for sure. two rods let go. the wheel in the oil pump was shattered. pretty good failure as they go. ill make a seperate thread so i dont litter this thread.

As far as the eagle rods go it's too late already got them. I appreciate the info though. I am on a budget on this, so even though they are heavier they were still cheaper then most others I looked at under $300.00.
Lex, as far as how many miles on it when it let go, couldn't honestly say. It was a used engine to begin with that had no compression on cylinder #4 which was thought to be rings at the time so put new rings in it to find when putting the head back on could see day light through the exhaust ports. Had another head I put on then installed into the first car (87 626GT) drove that for a little while then got my escort and put the engine in that, then the pro and put it it that. I have put at most 30k miles on it so I would say it has 60-100K on it.
On a side note the valves contacted the piston on that cylinder but only bent 1 valve, which I thought was cool.
