GB: Passenger mount for E153 adapter plate group buy- SECOND CHANCE UNTIL MARCH 10TH

To go along with Jon's E153 adapter group buy, I am thinking about making the needed passenger mount for it. Jon offered to send his mount to me to copy. I know that when I started my conversion, the trickiest part was locating the engine/trans in the right place. Having this mount should make that job much easier.

The design would follow my mount, but with smaller 1.5" bushings - same ones as Jon used in his mounts and same size as the Roodwerks mount. The inner sleeve would be out of aluminum with a 12mm ID inner hole to accept the stock bolt because the sleeve that comes with the bushings is too short and the ID a little too big at 1/2". The actual mount will be made out of mild steel (1/4" wall DOM tubing with 3/8" thick plates).

Here is a pic of my mount for reference (it uses 2" bushings).

I hate painting, so they would come bare. I know Jon can powdercoat stuff or I could get it done locally if enough people want that.

The price of a bare mount will be $125 shipped in this group buy as I will only be ordering as much material as I need and the parts are waterjet cut, so one-offs would not be cost-effective.

    I'll also want a $35 non-refundable deposit.

The deadline for the deposit (or full-payment) will 1/24/2010.

So, any takers? Need a minimum of 3 before I go ahead as that would about cover the minimum charge for the waterjet.

Well, it looks like there are atleast three interested, so it's a go. My paypal address is:

A lot of Jon's pics are in this post of his.

            Jon's driver side mount:

The driver side mount is much more complicated and would be a pita to make a jig for. Also, it uses part of the stock mount to retain the use of the battery tray. Though, it looks like he had to cut off one of the battery tray mounting ears.

In my install, I used the bottom bracket that bolts onto the frame rail below where the stock mount attaches because I don't need the stock battery tray.

I'll think about making the driver side mount depending on how this passenger mount group buy goes. That is assuming I can borrow Jon's to make the jig. But, it would surely be more than $125 and would require you sending me a stock mount to hack up.

Hmm, does anyone have a parts car that they could cut the frame rail out of to send me? Yeah, probably not, lol. But, that would make making the jig much easier.

Sure, that should not be a problem. Is the width of the mount the same on the Festiva (i.e. the inner sleeve should be ~3.21")? I could leave extra on the bottom piece so that you could cut it to length yourself in case your motor doesn't need to be moved over as much, etc. Do you have any idea on where your motor needs to be? For example, if you know that it doesn't need to move forward that 1", I would cut the bottom piece differently.

I'm in for the one mount for sure. I'll also be interested in the 2nd mount since I dont need a battery tray.
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Ferdi, how much of the frame rail do you need? If you can maybe take a pic of what you want, I can hack up one of the Escorts at the shop with a sawzall sometime this week (in theory).

Does this work with the gt4 trans as well?

theoretically it should work in a 4wd car too, as i'm fairly certain FWD guys have used GTR side mounts before. cant be sure though...

i no longer care about the factory battery tray. i ditched it long ago. i have a custom made honda style battery tray built. so the outer 10mm is not even needed for me. a drivers mount like yours would work for me. im sure that wouldn't cost anymore then the 125 to re fabricate. if you did a drivers side would it come with all the hardware?

the passenger mount - also if you where to do a group buy of 10 to match the 10 plates john just sold would that not drive the price down a little.

That would be awesome. Here is a pic of what I need depending on if I need to make one like Jon's for use with the stock battery tray (red), or if I can make a smaller version sorta like mine (green). The smaller version would not use the stock bracket like on mine, I would just weld on an extra tab for the bottom bolt. I'd prefer to only make one version - the small one - so that I don't have to deal with hacking up the stock mount, etc.

Yes, the driver side mount would include all needed hardware. A batch of 10 would lower the price $10-15, but as far as I know Jon has only sold about half the plates.

I'll do my best to get that done Wednesday/Friday- I'll probably cut that from my old GT, actually, since that bit should be easily accessible and isn't bent. I'll cut the red-boxed section from the car and if a decision is made on the style of mount before I ship it, I can always trim the piece down a bit.
