    mazda miata rear calipers????

I heard a rumor about mazda miata calipers fitting and working our cars just the same as ours do? are they the same part?
i heard the the miata caliper (rear) holds a bigger brake pad than ours does??? true? false?

im replacing my rear calipers and im looking to get the best stock ones i can whether it be from a mx3, miata, or from the protege

    what should i get?

I can't say for certain if they are exactly the same, but they definitely are very, very similar. On an FWD car with little weight on the rear wheels, the rear brakes provide virtually no stopping force- don't waste your money.
The Miata calipers are prone to seizing just like the Protege ones. They're definitely not a worthwhile "upgrade."

Does any body out there no what is the best rear caliper that is a stock replacement part... that will work on our cars>?

With a proportioning vavle that is adjustable for relocating brake pressure... you should be able to get more clamping force. a decent vented rear rotor with new caliper setup would be nice.... so far i've only seen 1 rear kit that is vented... and thats under "escort" which is the same ****.

oh well im looking for lots of input... so throw it at me

I just upgraded my rears with slotted rotors and axis pads, but left the calipers untouched. I can stop a bit better now, but its necessary for the kinda driving im gonna be doing. Thats all the useless info i have to post...lol.
        Eat ****.

Well, if the Miata calipers are infact the same, i'd make sense to have more clamping power, i mean they are still stopping the drive axles.

How fast do you plan on going? and is it stopping power to turn? or just to stop? (ie drag)

With an autox setup, our cars can lock the rears when stopping hard, as they can get unweighted enough to lock up. Good rotors, good fluid and better pads will be plenty for autox.
