    Long Life Iridium Spark Plugs

I have found that compared with the OEM nickel alloy electrode spark plugs, switching to Long Life Iridium plugs with a fine wire iridium-tipped center electrode, a platinum pad ground electrode, and an extended projected tip provides a noticeable performance increase. Specifically, an increase in acceleration in all modes and a quickened throttle response has been noted.

For a discussion of the factors underlying this beneficial change, I suggest the following two references:

The spark plugs I'm using now are Denso Iridium SKJ16CR-L11.

Obviously, for engines already OEM-equipped with Long Life Iridium plugs such as those in the Mazda3 or 6, this option is not available.

    Happy Motoring!

I have run iridum plugs in my old escort before. They worked amazing for a while, seemed like a new car, idle smoothed out seemed like my throttle response increased, but that didnt last very long, not as long as I would hope for the price.

      Longevity improved with platinum plugs

I have a '99 LX with the 1.6, 5-spd, 212,000 miles, no modifications. It still runs great, but around 150k it started to miss - just for a second, from a stop sign...engine warm or cold, and maybe only once every 50 miles. I changed the spark plugs, and for about 8000 miles it would run normally, then the occasional hesitation would occur again. I kept changing the plugs every 8000-10,000 miles - same problem. So at 180,000 miles, I decided to try the platinum spark plugs. 32,000 miles later, no missing.

I ONLY run iridium plugs. I've never had any issues related to ignition that wasn't caused by another part in the system.
          Worth every penny IMHO
