    Russianred's Protege Project Worklog

So the snow melted (mostly) and I finally got her running! Even after not moving for two years, it started right up at half a crank! I was amazed, but not surprised. This car was well kept. Slapped a plate on the back and took it for a break-in run. I immediately started smelling caliper, and when I got back my left tire was smoking. Conclusion? The front driver's side caliper is probably seized, or the rotor is extremely warped. i could feel the resistance as I was going town the road, and a hard pull to the right side on the wheel. Aside from that, I need to replace the valve cover gasket, and fix an exhaust leak. She should be good to go from there! In the somewhat near future, I also plan to replace the clutch (190k original miles!), and weld in a new floor panel so it can pass inspection. Tomorrow I'll take a look at that caliper and clean out the cobwebs from the inside :D. Here's the eye-candy:

Thoughts, ideas, comments - all welcome!

After inspection, run it daily until the clutch fails. Replace clutch. Run it daily until the engine dies. Replace the engine to a DOHC. I'm planning to make the shell last a looong time. Besides for that, cosmetic mods, drop, and some wheels. Also, I'd looove to get one of those familia full rear light panels .

Ace, what more plans are you asking about than I have already listed? If you're expecting a nasty 4wd conversion rally car, I don't think it's going to happen with this one unfortunately (but yeah that would be fkn awesome).
