    Hybrid axle question

I'm swapping to a BPT awd trans, thanks to Cody I have a set of front axles from a 4wd Pro. I know I need to hybrid these with my BF GTX axles but I'm not sure which parts I need from what - anybody have the details?

Thanks! Hope to get working on it soon!

I think it's only the piece that goes inside the transmission and the rest from your car

IIRC, the hybrid axles are all BG bits and BF outer CVs. I don't recall how much shortening, if any, need to be done. I still need to invest in some AWD Protege axles.

i PM'ed rocketman this, but here it is for everyone else

hey, im still pissed off about mazda323performance dying cause about 2 weeks before the last time they were online i wrote a huge How-to on all the axle info before i threw out all my notes.

i remember how to do the swap but i forget some of the spline counts.

hopefully you have been able to get a set of original OEM mazda protege 4wd axles and not aftermarket made ones.

For the Passenger side, remove the outer CV from the protege axle, install outer CV from the BF axle

drivers side, this is a little more complicated. remove outer CV from the protege axle and install BF outer CV just like the pass. side. Now u need to remove the boot from the inner CV, there is a C clip inside to remove, once removed the inner CV will slide off the axle. on the end of the axle there is a 3 sided bearing that is on the axle splines, if u look closely u can see it is offset so that its longer twards the transmission. You need to get this off the axle flip it over and put it back on the axle so it is off set twards the wheel. doing this shortens the axle the few MM's needed for the wider BG transmission.

Now the reason i said that i hope u have OEM mazda axles is this, stock BF axles had the same spline counts on the axle as the BG axles making the CV's interchangeable. aftermarket axles use +1, an extra spline on the axle, and a slightly larger diameter and wont interchange. i think it was 21 splines on the OEM and 22 aftermarket. also on the drivers side aftermarket axles they use a different type of inner sliding CV joint where you cant flip the piece to shorten.
