ZOOM ZOOM, where'd my oil go?

So I drove home from work last night and parked my Protege in the underground parking garage with no problems. This morning I start it up and my valve train is making all kinds of noise, then the oil light comes on. I shut it off immediately and checked the dipstick. No oil on the dipstick. No oil under the car. (Well no more than normal). Where did it go?? Is there an oil hoarder that came and stole it out of my crankcase?

WTF???? I rode the bus to work today, so I'll tear into it as soon as I get home tonight. I'm at a loss on this one. ????

So much for my great wear numbers on my BP.

Burning oil is likely correct - you had oil in the valvetrain on the way home last night so it wasn't noisy but once it settled in the pan overnight, it couldn't be picked up and pumped well up into the valvetrain again due to the low level.

My BP doesn't burn much oil, if at all. However, it does leak like crazy out of the bottom (rear main maybe, not sure... don't really care).
I just changed my oil at the end of last week, so that much oil loss did not come from the leak I do have (I lose almost a quart a month depending on the angle that the car is sitting when I park it).

When I got home from work last night, I took a closer look, and my drain plug was laying threads up on the concrete under the car and there was only a small puddle of oil on the ground. Maybe a half a quart as opposed to the gallon that should have been in the crankcase. I think someone took my oil, which is ****ed!

I filled it back up with fresh oil and it runs fine, so no harm done, but damn! I want to know WTF happened. If it was my fault and I hadn't tightened the drain plug, where's the oil? I guess I should just forget about it unless it happens again, right?

Did April Fool's Day come a day early for me or something?

I pumped the oil out through the dipstick tube.

What brand of oil do you use? It must be a very desirable one.

There's kids and haters lurking around where I live. My parking spot is on constant video surveillance so if it had caused any real damage I would have looked into it but... no harm no foul. Just made for an exciting Wednesday.

If someone was messing around.... Karma can be a beeatch.

Valvoline.... or whatever is sitting around. IMO, as long as the visc is close, oil is oil for a daily driven car. If you want that real good stuff, go to the dealership. They'll tell you their oil's the best on the planet, while they pick your pocket and don't even give you a reach around. I've heard that dealership stuff has a little wear gnome that dances around in your engine patching things up. LMAO.
