    KL timing belt

Anyone else have a terrible time trying to put a timing belt on a KL? I followed the book exactly and have all the slack in the "V" area between the cam gears trying to slip the belt around the idler pulley and its like the belt is just to short by like 1 tooth. I have the tensioner all the way collapsed, so I dont know whats up.

    Something I am missing?

It was hard for me also, but it is much easier with two people. Get a friend To hold the tensioner down with a screwdriver or something to pry on while you slip the belt on. I ripped two brand new belts before i finally figured this out. At 50 bucks a piece you become very careful. LOL

Ok thanks I finally got it on, and it was like the method linked on probetalk, just without the turning the crank part. Got the car started, but now it has a nasty coolant leak, and a bad vacuum leak somewhere under the manifold.

right\, I understand step 2. Support the Engine , and Remove the nuts and through-bolt from the right side engine mount and remove mount this is what I wanted to know if I really had to do or not. From my unknown knowledge that removing mount means engine will drop try to advoid that if all possible.
              Yeah!!!! That's All I have.......

engine will drop if you do not support it, I would use a carjack with a piece of wood on the engine so you can lower & raise it to get at certain components. Do not use the oil pan, they are stamped steel & very weak, and usually half rotten...lol.

When removing the motor mount is too much trouble, better let a professional handle the project. It's hard enough with all the right tools and knowledge...

^ you really do whore up every thread.

it seems odd why they would make it so difficult to do the timing belt. good to know for the future

u SHOULD support the engine from below. BUT u dont have to, there's a "notch" on the engine where the mount bolts to that would hit the chassis when it's lowered. the engine would stop and not go below that point. but that said u should still support it. and yes u have to take off the mount otherwise u wont be able to change to a different belt b/c the belt loops around it. now if ur only doing other things like changing water pump and what not and plan on reusing the same belt, then u can leave the mount in.

i'm hoping i'll never have to do a timing belt on my KL lol, at least not while in the car...a BP on the other hand takes like 30? mins after the crank bolt is out lol.

i have issues fitting my hands in the 626 to do an alt belt change! next project is to delete the a/c since it doesn't work and just clogging up room.

you just set the crank 1 tooth off and use a screwdriver to move the tensioner... takes 5 minutes tops..
