    Ac?

I was wondering if there is a way to get my AC to blow harder out the vents? Im going on a long trip and I plan on doing a recharge but I just want it to blow like new or just better. It seems like when i put it on 4 it just makes more noise but blows like its on 1 still. Any suggestions?

Replace the blower motor? Maybe the blower motor resistor is screwed up somehow? I'm not sure...that's a new one on me. You might want to make sure the blower fan cage isn't full of debris, too. That'll make noise and potentially reduce airflow from the vents. Are you sure it just FEELS like it's not blowing hard enough, maybe because you expect it to be colder?

Have you had your car converted to R-134 yet? If not, good luck getting that thing charged. It will be worth your while to buy a conversion kit from a parts store (should probably run 20-40 bucks). Then, find someone with an A/C machine to vacuum the R-12 out, replace the fittings and recharge with 134. Oh, and you might want to run some florescent dye in the A/C system, too, so you can find where it's leaking from.

Where is the blower motor located? Under the dash? Whats it look like? Im thinking it might just be clogged. Sometimes ill get an occasional pine needle fly out of my vent haha.

As for R-134 I haven't got a clue if it has of not. Ive only had it for about 2 years and im like the 7th owner. Is there a way of me knowing or would I have to just take it to a specialist? What happens if I recharge with R-134 and it hasn't been converted? Thanks for your help btw!

I don't know the specific location of the blower motor, but it will be somewhere under your dash. I'd start with under the glove box; that's where I've seen a lot of them. Only other place I can imagine it being is behind the center stack (where the radio and fan/temp controls are). I can't tell you what it looks like, though. Sorry. I've never messed with a BF before. I used to have a BG, but never had problems with the air con system, so I never went digging around. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure BFs and BGs are set up the same way.

Now, as for being converted, I can't really tell without looking at the car. There may be a sticker on the frame rail by the radiator under the hood, or somewhere else under there that will tell you. Really, it shouldn't matter right now, because unless you have an A/C recharge machine at your house, you'll need to take it to a mechanic anyway to have the system drawn down for a leak check. That being said, if your A/C is blowing cold, I wouldn't bother with any of that. If it's working, leave it alone. From your posts, it sounds like your problem lies with the blower, not the air conditioning, so I wouldn't touch that system.

If you tried to recharge an R-12 system with -134a, bad things would eventually happen. The oils each refrigerant uses aren't compatible. Again, if your air conditioning is working (you hear the compressor turn on, cold air coming from the vents) don't touch it. Just leave it be.

Take it to a shop and have them give it a diagnostic test. It just may be low on refrigerant or a leak. The blower motor is located directly under the glove box. The high amp resistors are prone to break, but you would end up with nothing but one or two fan positions that would work. If you are not getting a strong delivery of air, the fan's bearings could be dirty / damaged, or the vents could be clogged, or the resistors are corroded. You could check the resistance, if you have the tools and the shop manual.

Grab a copy of the factory service manual and see what needs to be done. I've had my dash removed several times, and I've always cleaned out the vents / blower, and made sure the seals were in good shape. To be honest, I'd rather eat **** and live, than do that again.
