Well there are 2 upgrade options for your stock manual sunroof. 1. 1st gen protege will have a solid metal POWER sunroof. 2. 2nd gen ford escort gt will have a glass power sunroof. Both are direct bolt in when using the bf chassis brackets that hold it to the roof. Also all power connections should be direct plug in."See that car, in the 80's that car was deadly." I did the glass sunroof swap a long time ago. I might have posted the details on the yahoo forum.
At first, I used a 626 or MX6 power sunroof switch panel, which fit well, but left a small gap towards the windshield. I massaged it in to shape with a heat gun. I ended up scoring a factory 323 power sunroof switch panel, and chucked the old one.
The connector on the sunroof assy needed to be changed from either male or female to the other. That was very easy to do.

Using the bg chassis protege switches you won't need to do any wiring. However like bfmrgtx says there will be a small gap"See that car, in the 80's that car was deadly." Random man to his son while passing the GTX in a parking lot

I found the protege switches to be a much better look/fit than the escort gt panel. Its not perfect though.

so i went to the junkyard and found a power setup (i think out of a 626, and after reading the thread again when i got back from the junkyard, im pissed i didnt get the protege one so im hoping this will work). anyways, i wasnt able to get the back cables off so i just clipped them. are there existing cables with the crank setup i can use?

power or manual they both have the cables and are all part of that specific sunroof assembly. if u cut them its trash. U need the entire sunroof not just the motor"See that car, in the 80's that car was deadly." Random man to his son while passing the GTX in a parking lot

Just got back from the j-yard where there was an '87 LX wagon. Scored the power window master switch and the power sunroof components. I'll test the power window switch to make sure it works and then throw it in my parts bin. Can't wait to install the power sunroof switch! Has the stock set-up for the rear view mirror. I'll take pics when I get around to this.
