    Ford Escort GT BP05

    Phase 2: Buy Parts

    84mm Supertech Pistons / Belfab H beams

    Bearings

    Supertech spring kit

    Supertech black nitride valves

    Gasket set

    Mazda valve cover

Found a Main Bearing Support Plates at the wreckers, the ford engine did
    not come with one.

Blocks painted and ready to assemble

    Crank

Aforementioned crank goes in block (0.0040 endplay, yay new bearings)

And threw sand on the valve cover at high speed

      Block

You can see the little oil squirter here

And I put the pistons in the block

      Also started porting the head

        The head is nearing completion!

One snag though - keepers from the BP05 do not fit the titanium miata parts

So I took apart the transmission and decided I need an LSD.

The mailman brought me a 626 5th gear and a walbro 255LPH fuel pump

Want to see what almost 200 dollars of titanium keepers looks like?

              Finished getting those keepers in

I had cleaned two sets of HLA's last year and now they are in the head. I primed each one with some oil and all of them became super stiff prior to installation.

It's starting to look like an engine now.

Next step is cam oil seal and the oil & water pump

Gates timing belt, arp head studs and a new oil pump

the oil pump has an O-ring! woohoo, fords BP pump did not have one

Have the engine almost ready to drop in, just need to get the clutch
                put on correctly.

The entire pulley side is brand new - water pump, oil pump, timing belt,
                tensioners etc.

Get tensioners from NAPA - 35 bucks each

                A BP installed

Here is how to wire a 94 DOHC to protege harness.

                  Engine Management:

The interior is reassembled and here is how it is right now:

My fancy adjustable fuel pressure regulator arrived and has been installed.

Theres a nice hole in the strut wall that it can be bolted to:

                  Heres the mazda/toyota/nissan style adapter:

                  and the neat guage:

                  Thou shall not tick.

Turbo and manifold have arrived, ETD BP manifold and a Garrett T3 Super 60:

Bearing kit for the tranny arrived. I was surprised they all all japanese bearings.
Just need the LSD now to rebuild the transmission.

Organized the haltech harness and labelled all the wires so installation *should*
                    be fairly painless.

Should go in before the end of the month.

Made a new injector harness too:

Fuel rail arrived 3 days after ordering.

Installing the Haltech and fuel rail with rx-7 460cc injectors to start.

                    And the turbo:

Car is NA tuned with the Haltech. Runs so smooth.

                      Here is the dyno sheet:

                      GTR intake and tranny bits

                      rated to 370 ftlbs

I was busy with the transmission this weekend -
New bearings are all on now

                      Mazda speed LSD

You have to mod the case near the speedo gear for the LSD to not make contact:

Normal BP 5th gear above VS the 626/Probe more fuel efficient 5th gear below:

                      Here it is all together:

Here is my head after 10000 kilometers:

And I put on my new valve cover and GTR intake:

new camshaft seals while im at it:

                        More turbo goodies:

                        Old and busted:

                        New hotness:

I also refurbed the RX-7 injectors:

I got the flywheel back today, replaced the rear main while the tranny was off:

                        Machined flywheel:

                        And spec clutch:

I used blue loctite so my nuts wouldn't fall off

                          Fitment begins:

turbo lines / FMIC pipes and exhaust are all thats left now

Also here is my noise maker:

                          And my boost controller:

                          My tubular nightmare begins:

                          Made some holes for tubes:

                          Fitting mandrel intercooler pipes:

Lots of room inside to play with:

Oh looks like my measuring is good and I dont have to hack up the bumper
                          or bumper support:

These frame support brackets will need to be cut a little bit on the inside to
                          accomodate the intercooler piping:

                          Picked up my mufflers:
Dynomax super turbo and dynomax bullet resonator/muffler

I got some new door panels from a power window mx-3 so no more odd crank
                            holes:

For my boost and oil pressure gauges I think im going to mount them in the corners
of the dash. Boost with RPMs and oil pressure on the engine temp side. (Yes I know
its the boost gauge on the temp side just pretend its a matching oil pressure)

                            Downpipe is on:

My oil restrictor for the turbo finally came awhile back:
The idea behind this is the 0.063" opening limits oil pressure to 40 psi
to stop seals from blowing on colder starts/WOT. My oil pressure gets as high
as 80 psi when its first starting.

Heres my stainless braided coolant and oil feed lines. -6 AN for coolant and
-4AN size for oil feed. They are on my other BP build engine.

Heres the high temp silicon oil return line at a hefty -10AN size or 5/8 inch.

                            Which goes to here:

Also for coolant return I can make use of a pre existing hole where a useless
                            sensor is (the coolant temp):

Plug and play oval tops are so nice

                            Oil and coolant feeds/returns:

Here is a better picture of how the return works:

Had to grab a new wastegate actuator, old one wasn't opening till 20 psi which is bad.

Just random shots of how the pipes are:

These brackets are a nice touch:

There is a small issue with the water hose inlet from the rad, its too close to the
                              downpipe so its being modified.

The non shiney tip makes it very sleeperish. I may or may not change it later.

Front bumper support with intercooler etc fit

So the oil return has been moved from here:

To here (measured 3.5L fluid it sits just below that spot):

                              Preserving stock looks:

Falken Ziex 912s on some refinished GS rims:

And the all important dyno, you can see the boost was leaking then it popped
off the hot side pipe and asploded.
