Sylvania Silverstar 9004
A poor man's review
I recently acquired a pair of Sylvania Silverstars. With a claim of "up to 20% brighter" I was sold on the idea, considering how miserably dim my headlights are. So, I installed the new bulbs. That night, I drove home and tested them out. Here are my findings:
-They are definitely WHITER, but aren't much BRIGHTER.
-However, they do seem to improve visibility somewhat.
-They don't have any goofy 'blue' look to them.
-Cleaning and polishing the lenses actually makes more of a difference than the new bulbs do.
In terms of cost efficiency, it's probably better in the long run to get e-spec headlights. Silverstars burn out in about a year and cost up to $45 a pair. Also, most of the light loss seems to be from the old, yellow lenses.
So, should you buy Silverstars? Only if you don't care about being able to see.
