    rebuilding motor couple of questions

sorry i am new and was informed on a different forum that i should redirect me question here..

i am wondering if anyone knows how good the quality on the essential speed cai, intake manifold, and headers are the reason i am inquiring is i am going to build a whole new motor cause mine is about dead. so also if anyone knows a good place to get rebuilt motors and transmission for a 1.8L 95 ES i could use some help? also i am wondering if the gude cams for the escort will work on the motor or if anyone else has cams for the car? and my trans is pretty bad off so i need a new one and i figured might as well throw a flywheel in it so does anyone make those? and does anyone have input on the b&m short shifter cause i do not like my pace setter and want to change it so i am wondering how that is?
    thank you for your help.

    Well welcome to the board.
You say you want to rebuild your motor. Well it can be done. There are variables though. You have to decide if you are going to be doing the rebuild or if you are going to have a shop do it. If you are going to have a shop do it then it may cost you a bit.

    but anyway.
For pistons you could contact www.mazdaformanc.com ... They will sell you the factory pistons which would basically run you about 200 bucks for 4.
-- You do a compression test to make sure that you engine has good compression.

I don't know if your car is a 5 speed or an automatic. But if it is an auto then you may as well collect the parts that you need to convert the car over to a 5-speed. You can use the same ecu, you just need to get the tranny and shift linkaga along with a few other parts.

As for a clutch, there are a few choices. WE have clutchnet, act, exedy, clutchmaster. With flywheels, mazda guys tend not to use them tomuch because they cause tranny problems. I don't know much about that as I have not had a desire for a lightweight flywheel.

As for parts for other cars. The Escort does use a 1.8BP version of our engines. (the BP) The parts that fit on the escort BP will usually fit on our BP...
The 2nd gen BP also shares the performance market with the 1st gen protege.

However you should search the board and research the different opinions on parts that other people have used. Being as you are new, it would be smart to do that. You don't want to purchase something that someone else has already purchased and maybe did not like and it would have save you a lot of heart ake and pain.

depending on how much you want to spend you could get a bpt engine and transmission or like i am doing, save up for the front clip from the first gen protege and put that in it would add performance and those engines generally have about 30- 40k on them i'm 90% sure that engine will fit in your car

well i have the 95 es 1.8L 5spd.. my trans at the least needs to be rebuilt maybe replaced my plan is to get a rebuilt crate longblock then when i get it take my head to my machinist to port it out and maybe deck it a little, i think i am going to leave the bottom end alone for now cause i can't afford the good pistons and rods, but i need to know what aftermarket cams if any i can use, i am basically making a mild n/a motor since i will be going to school and just need a reliable car but i want to at least get the car in the low 14's right now i run a 15.8 in hawaii and the track has no traction and air quality sucks so i don't think a second and a half is too much to fathom..
