    Turbo survey...

Okay, if you had your choice of:

    1. swapping on a full VJ-11 (with a slightly cracked exhaust housing... two cracks at the wastegate) or

    2. swapping on a VJ-11/14 hybrid

which would you choose and why?

ok either weld the cracked one shut and use that as an option, or dont use the cracked one, if its already falling apart, why try and use it, unless you try and fix it first....

I think it would hold up. That cracks are on the inside along the lip of the wastegate (nothing shows externally) and my exhaust breathes pretty freely (everything's been modded except the down pipe). I'm also running about 5+ quarts of full synthetic oil with an oil cooler and a turbo timer, so I don't think the turbo would get as hot as a stock set-up. Therefore, failure of the turbo due to exploding apart from heat and pressure would be less of a chance.

However, I am more likely to err on the side of safety and go with a VJ-14 hot-side which, design-wise, I have heard is much better (more stout) than that of the VJ-11. To do so means I'll have to take apart the turbo to swap on the VJ-14 side since my rebuilt turbo is a full VJ-11. I guess that only means loosening four bolts, I think.

Anybody else have an opinion? I'm interested in hearing from as many pwoplw as possible.

Hybrid. full VJ11 has nice power but you gain better spool time with the hybrid

Hybrid, 175rpm delay vs the 500rpm delay with the nearly identical power levels... win!

                  Okay, okay.... (smiling)....

                  I get the idea! LOL

I just hope that the exhaust housing of my VJ-14 is in good shape. I don't think there are any problems (silently chanting a prayer and crossing fingers....)

I'll take some pics of the swap.
