Museum Village is located just off Route 17M in the village of Monroe, NY. Monroe is in Orange County which is also home to Orange County Choppers.
Museum Village is in a rural area not too far from Exit 16 on the New York State Thruway. To learn more about the place, and for driving directions, go to:
The village consists primarily of 19th century buildings in various states of restoration and repair (some open, some not) representative of the types of structures common to the area at that time. Many different types of buildings are on display including businesses, a school, farm buildings, a windmill, and a firehouse. Anyone with an interest in the way people lived in the farming communities of that era, and the occupations they engaged in, might find this a worthwhile place to visit.
Perhaps the display of greatest interest at the site is housed in the Museum's Natural History building - a mastodon. Many mastodons have been unearthed in New York state, and the one on display here is said to be the most intact specimen in the US.
