    CODY004's 95 Escort GT-S

Okay, so a little background on this project...

I bought the dark green 95 EGT when My girlfriends Kia was rear ended by a jeep and she needed to drive something while her car was repaired. I thought it would be a great temporary vehicle that would then be parted out for spares and donor parts for the 4wd. Then I decided I loved it too much to get rid of it so I drove it for 4 or 5 months.

Fast forward to a couple months ago when I found another green 95 EGT for the same price. This one had half the miles, and didn't burn a quart of 20w50 every gas tank like the dark green car did. I bought it, transferred the mods from the dark car to the new light car, and then stripped the dark green car to bare bones, I kept every single fastener on the car, as well as all mechanical parts and all good body parts, and cut it into 10 pieces to load into the back of a truck.

I took the new 95 to the race track to get a baseline 1/4mile ET, and was pretty embarrased by it's 19.7 best time. This altitude sucks for performance and the car is an auto so whatever.

Fast forward to last week, I was headed to work and a Turbo Saab pulled up next to me at a light. We screwed around a little, and he really wasn't that much faster than me when we ran from a 35mph roll, (killed me on the standing start though) so I decided that I was going to supercharge the new 95.

The very next day was my 1 day off for the week, so I did it. I worked from 9AM to 11PM including trips to both Ford and GM dealerships for gaskets, and a trip to Advance Auto for some NGK BKR7E plugs, Mobil 1 Full synthetic 5w20, and a Mobil 1 filter. Total on gaskets, oil, filter, and plugs was like $65, and I spent $650 on the supercharger as a bolt-on kit, so $715 was the total to add boost, do an oil change and a minor tune up.

I gapped the plugs to 35, built a U/K Hybrid AFM, and used a 12:1 Vortech FMU for tuning. I have 330cc injectors, and am running the distributor fully advanced on E85 @ 8psi from 2000-7500rpm.

I have so far run a best of 16.888 @ 84mph, with the best 60' time of 2.6xx down from 3.1xx, but that was with street tires @ 51psi all around, decent tire spin, and a few small hiccups. I am saving for a set of Dunlop Direzza Z1 star spec's that I will mount to my set of directional EGT fanblades... They should get me the traction that I need to put the power down. Then I am going to save up for a set of 460cc's and a 2.4" pulley from pulleyboys.com which should net about 14psi. And if it gets too tricky to tune on the NA ecu, I also have a PNP megasquirt from LEX, that I was going to use to tune a turbo motor in the 4wd, but I may go with a high compression N/A BP w/ITB setup in that car so we'll see.

This should put the car (hopefully) into the low 14's which would be like a 13.5ish in topeka (2800' vs 5800' elevation). And after that I plan on building a hybrid Kia trans with an mfactory LSD, since I have all the 5speed swap parts in my garage. Maybe 13's would be possible @ Bandimere (5800')?!!

Anyway, talk is cheap, here is the mod-list for the car, then on to the good part; PICS!!!

thats cool to see people coming around and trying these a little more often... my only suggestion would be as wide of a pulley as you can fit , you dont want slipping, find something like 6-8 ribbed or more if you can fit it. im sure your still limited as far as attaching it to the crank pulley but im sure you can figure something out...

So far no slippage. We'll see when I put the smaller pulley on... It is set up for a 6 rib now, but I am going to have to move the whole blower two ribs to the pass side, or have a pulley made for the charger with less offset to be able to utilize the two extra ribs, they are inline with the edge of the waterpump pulley as of now, and that wont work, then I will have to get a custom crank and power steering pulley set made with 6-ribs...

Here's hoping it wont slip. If it does I will probably just fab up another tensioner pulley to go between the PS pump and the charger...

        in due time...

That would be nice... but it wouldn't work. My blower's snout is too short to clear the outlet on that plate, and the charger sits too far back for the inlet on that plate to clear the firewall.

But, that has given me an idea, since I already have a plate that is about the same dimensions as that one, without the inlet/outlet... I could open it up and weld in a divider and position my own inlet and outlet, and do a ducted SMIC instead of an AWIC. Or I may as well just weld a new adapter plate up, and move the blower over to the pass side enough to do a 6-rib setup while I am at it...

            Oh the options.

I think I will pick up a spare supercharger and rebuild it, replace this one, and mock something up on my spare engine...

This was supposed to be cheap fun

But I am warming up to the Idea of using the Protege as my DD. When the body work and paint is finished, I could do a cheap JY turbo setup, use the FMU and 330's on it, and turn the Escort into my "fun" car...

Ah- I am just as bad as turpro, but at least I have more then one car

Yeah, I have all the 5-speed swap parts in my garage... but I want to do the KIA trans at the same time, so it'll have to stay the way it is for now. It's pretty fun as-is, compared to when it was stock, and I think I can get it into the low 14's with the auto, and that's good enough to keep up with stock STI's and EVO's at this altitude.

I was about to lol at the 1/4 mi time until I noticed it was an auto... street tires suck with boost, if you plan on being at the track a decent amount, just spring for some DRs.

What the hell are you doing running 51 psi in your tires, anyway?
