    Motor mount question

    hey

i was wondering if any or all of the motor mounts from the 1.8L can be used on the 1.5L

my main reason is because i have a broken mount on my 1.5
and say that some of the 1.8 mounts will work

i will get the 1.8 mzdaspd mounts, use the ones that fit
and hold on to the other ones till i get my 1.8

but for now, i need some

does anyone know if any 1.8 mounts will fit in the 1.5?

Yea their mounts are the same. The only mounts that are diffrent in 2nd Gens are the tranny mounts for AT and MT. But which mount is broken? I can tell you for sure then.

to be honest, i dont know which one is exactly broken
i havent checked it out yet, it jus feels like one is broken when i touch the gas in gear, and the right front wheel gets mad wheel hop almost all the time

i got stuck in the snow, and i was trying to get myself out
i think that was what broke it

what would the difference between the 1.5 MM and the 1.8MM be then? cause corksport has a listing for the mazdaspeed 1.8L mounts but not the 1.5L

Im willing to bet that its the rear mount. It bolts to the tranny and then to the suspension frame. When I took out my old engine i was looking at all the mounts and noticed that the rear was broke. I was like WTF?! cause i never had a clue that bitch was broken. In the later parts of my 1.5L ride it was getting wheel hop with an automatic tranny. So if i was you i would look into the back one.
As for Corksport listing it only for 1.8L i dont know. Because a 1.8L MT and a 1.8L AT have diffrent tranny mounts. Also i would imagine the 96 1.8l's have diffrent mounts aswell because they use the G-tranny (but im not sure about that). So that leaves several diffrences in 1.8L models, not to mention 1.5L models.

All i can tell you is that from my experience converting a 1.5L/AT to a 1.8L/MT, the only mounts that were diffrent were 2 tranny mounts that were due to the automatic to manual switch.

is wheel hop related only to a broken engine mount or there's something else that can cause it?

not broken engine mounts, but flexible ones
a factory car can wheel hop under certain conditions

mine jus does it 24/7 now so somethings wrong

with stiffer mounts, it would rarely do it... depending on the stiffness
and also, stiffer bushings for the front end

the draw backs of these stiffer parts is more vibration
there is nothing to absorb the vibrations anymore
thats what the squishy mounts and bushings were designed for

                oh, I see...
that means no stiff mounts and bshing for me

There is a rumor floatng around that the passenger side engine mount bracket for 1.5s and 1.8s are diffrent lengths. Thats not true. Just wanted everyone to know. I put my 1.8 in this weekend using the 1.5 bracket and it was a perfect fit.

1.5L MT and 1.8L 96+MT all the motor mounts are the same. You can order the mazda speed motor mounts for the 96+ 1.8L MT and install them.

I am willing to bet that the motor mount that broke is your passenger side motor mount. This is also the motor mount that is broken on my 2nd gen. It's a crappy design so you can't expect any less of it.
Here is a pic of mine.

here you can see where the mount will break.

I was thinking of using a 1st or 3rd gen passenger motor mount design..

now why are the 95 and 96 mounts from the 1.8L different?

because the 95 came with the G25-MR??

(p.s. thanks a lot, great info)

yup the passenger mount is different on the 95 1.8.. So I tend to skip it.
