Great Lakes Dragway Tuesday Sep 28

To any southeastern wisconsin or northern Illinios guys. I'll be going to Great lakes to run the Tracer. My first time going to the track and any friendly faces would be nice. We'll see what street tires, a VJ-20 and 190,xxx mile block are good for....if I can drive.

True, but running anything but street tires on a g-series is asking for trouble.

        As you already know, lol.

actually i broke a toyota axle on street tires, wheel hop is what tends to break things and its more likely to happen on street tires.

I built solid front and rear mounts so i never had to deal with wheel hop.

            It is quite destructive though.

I pulled a 14.5 in my wagon on azenis, which are kinda street tires.

you'll probably go faster, cuz the wagon is a beast at ~2400, plus my 235lbs at the time.

Tuesday?? Who gets to go play in the middle of the week!!! I'm kinda jealous.
              good luck!

I plan on heading out around 6;30. It's not like it a daytime activity. No pics as I'm at work. The car is going as the same way its DD'd. Full spare tire no weight reduction and yokohama's.

What a night. First off, google maps app for my phone can suck it. Turns out Great Lakes Dragaway is kind of a Sh*t hole, the exit road had pot holes a foot deep and four wide.

Second, wheel hop, wheel hop, and wheel hop some more. Every other run some God d*mn V8 would oil down the track and they'd VHT the sh*t out of it. It was either bog or violent wheel hop. I just couldn't get a nice street style launch...... a little wheel spin and no hop. I honestly think I could 60ft better on the street, it was ridiculous. It was suppose to be a street tire night, really wasn't. Last run of the night it popped out of 1st and scared the crap out of me. Actually that run in the staging lanes it was grumpy going into 1st, no grinds just didn't want to go. Feels fine now though (thankfully.) Time will tell.

Anyways, now that I got that rant out. Got 6 runs in. Best E/T was the 1st pass of the night at 15.062 at 95.54, Best MPH was 96.71 with an E/T of 15.181. Best 60ft was 2.472......rigodamndiculous. At least several BMW's and a B16 integra went home pretty butt hurt.

Only dime I've been to GLD was for a rallyX they were having in the fields to the right and at the end of the dragstrip.

The only time I dragraced my car was at Byron. Ended up waiting a long time after my first run, because two or three guys ended up dumping oil and coolant all over the track, and it had to be cleaned.

i refuse to go to GLD. i've WASTED alot of money to them & haven't seen much of any runs.
i've broken more then a couple parts the times i have run there.
its a very inconsistant track & poorly maintained if you ask me- definitely not worth the time for the $ wasted

fyi I also was able to eek a high 14.7 out of a vj20 on a stock usdm bp engine. I later swapped in some gtx cams and I ran a 14.25 all night long. If you dont have a set of cams I would look for some!

what rpm do you launch at?

Also I would COMPLETELY suggest getting your front and rear mounts welded up. For the amount of benifit, the small amount of vibration added to the vehicle is more than worth it. I could probably count on my hands how many times my wheels started hopping and I went through a set of tires almost every 3 months.

When I went, it was before I put in the welded mounts. Guess what? Busted the driver side axle when staging. hop hop click! Since then, solid mounts and the LSD would probably make the time a lot better, but I've yet to get around to going back.
