KLZE into BG in 10 days. o.O

    here's my blog: http://deathbysedan.blogspot.com/

I just converted my automatic 95 BG Protege sedan to MX3 manual KLZE in 10 days. I even went to work 3 days, got sick for one and had thanksgiving dinner! LOLOLOLOL i'm pretty tired.

the car is all MX3 from the driver seat forward, all the wiring and everything. i used the dash too.

the car isn't completely done yet, but it runs. I still need to bleed the brakes (changed over a manual Protege LX master cylinder resivoir for the clutch master hose), fill the coolant, make my 2.5" full exhaust, and clean up the interior wiring and panels.

It's not much of a worklog, but I'll update things I do with the car, I've already planned a lapping day to shakedown the setup at the end of the month.

    here's a pic: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UzB6ZBNI8D...0/P1060867.JPG

It's a newer JDM KL31-1A1 KLZE curved neck with plastic PS pulley and only one water temp sensor, also it had the internal coil 6wire distributor and KL01 cams. I got it for $540, and the car was $500, so you can see where i'm going with this, it's a cheap project. A good clutch, 16x8 rota mcgriddles with DZ101 dunlops, sprint springs and a KL31 chip for the K8 ecu, it's about a $2K complete car! can't wait to drive it next week.

also when i said dash, i meant i used the cluster, not the whole dash.. lol. i know people have used the whole dash but i didn't.

thanks. i'll have more pics when i'm driving the car regularly and i've caught up on all the missed sleep. I went through about 12 cans of AMP energy to complete the work haha.

also if anyone is curious, i'm trying to use the MX3 rad, i made mounts on the bottom of the support and mounted it low, made a central mounting point behind the hood latch and bolted it through a mounting hole at the top of the rad (used for fans). had to order a 12" electric fan though. I'll try to use it but it might hit a bit when i'm driving it's a close fit at the alternator.

also i deleted the powersteering like a miata. I'm going to try this out. cut some of the time put into the swap, and less fluid to leak out later! lol.

the car has 100,000kms (62,000miles) and it's pretty minty considering it's pretty old.

it only took you 7 more days then us to do. we had a running BP pro on friday night, and a running KL on monday.

get some pic's up of your radiator swap. that was def the hardest part of doing the swap. everything else just bolts right in to place and is beyond simple. but trying to figure out a radiator set up that works is a PITA

wow man, for your first swap that's pretty amazing to do these both by yourself in one weekend. i can only really change an engine in one day by myself, i was having a lot of trouble with all sorts of crap like missing sensors, having to tap the waterneck, find suitable bushings for the shifter, rewire crap in the dash for the switches to work. just sucks up all sorts of time with the swap, car still isn't driving either becasue i don't have access to the garage anymore, have to wait to make the exhaust..

the rad is tight, but it looks like it's going to work fine. i took the stock protege rad mounts off, dropped them down and slightly to the right side of the car (towards the timing belt side) and pretty much at the bottom of the engine side of the rad support, welded a steel bracket to the rad support right behind the hood latch and kinda tilted the whole rad towards the front a little. I'll get a pic. had to cut a bit off the alternator bracket and headlight plastic frame as well, and a 12" electric fan will go in the front.
