What if the imported car was legally registered in another state (that isn't as strict) and then brought to NY? Can you register it then?

i use to know a guy that brought canadian cars to the us. he would go over the border and then do the tranfer in atlanta before bringing them to florida. if you call us customs you should be able to find all the info you need to do it correctly

Can be done but have fun trying to register it, there's a bunch of loop holes you have to jump through.

1 buy USDM 323 for $100. Register in your name.
2 have someone legally drive the canadian plated 323 GTR over the boarder to your house
3 swap VIN numbers of cars
4 fill factory stamped VIN on gtr with JB weld
                  5 sand VIN area
6 stamp in new VIN number from old 323
                  7 repaint VIN area
8 swap door stickers etc or any other identifying marks
9 buy that dual motion saw you always see on TV being sold by annoying brit guy and dead coke addict guy
10 cut $100 323 into tiny pieces after properly recycling any environmentally hazardous fluids
11 dig a hole in the ground
12 fill hole with old 323 pieces and a few bags of salt spinkled all over
13 spray some water on pieces
                  14 salt again
                  15 cover hole with dirt
16 drive away in road legal 323 gtr
17 talk to your local mechanic and bribe him with beer or an asian escort model to make you a fake safety/etest if applicable, or if the $100 323 isnt too bad get it safety checked and etested before cutting up etc.
18 if anyone asks you did the conversion yourself including the RHD, if cops say where is your receipt, ask them where is the law saying you have to keep a receipt from a drivetrain and parts you purchased 10 years ago and cant remember where you bought from.

Pretty sure that's the rule for overseas imports to the US because they have to be able to comply with current safety standards and emissions requirements. Not quite sure how Canadian imports work, Could probably get away with it legally if you moved to Canada for a bit and then moved back to the states with it LOLOL

I wouldnt recommend doing that by any means lol

but would be pretty hard for them to prove its not the usdm 323 if you did it right

should you do it? well I guess that depends on how bad you want to drive the car and how good you are at keeping your mouth shut afterwards.

of course if there is a legal way to do it, obviously go with that, but if not then at least you know what your getting yourself into lol

let us know how it turns out
