ok so on the status of my moter i have every thing pulled and ready to lift the head but out of the ten head bolts i have removed i still cant lift the head i have already removed the intake with the exhaust removed the passenger side moter mount which i doubt i needed to is the some bolts or something that i am missing and thanks for any tips that u give me in advance

do you remove the braket where that mount sits. that braket goes from the front of the head to the side of the block, right on the back of the alternator. i dont understand if you already remove the intake manifold. but the intake manifold has a couple of brakets holding the manifold to the block, right under it. hope that helps.

friend is hard to tell without seen some pics. but if you are shure you have remove everything, sometimes the dowels that center the head to the block are a pita to let the head go. some times you need to go around and pry it at the corners evenly to pull it out. no you dont have to remove those allen plugs, thats only when you are going to service the head. (REMEMBER I AM ONLY GIVING IDEAS, IM NOT THERE TO BE 100% SURE OF WAS GOING ON) DO YOU HAVE A BOOK O ANY TYPE OF GUIDE TO DO THIS TYPE OF WORK? JUST ASKING.......... GOOD LUCK.............CARLOS

if you are sure there is nothing holding the two together then take a rubber mallet and tap the cylinder head to see if that will knock it loose. once you remove the head studs there shouldnt be anything to damage.
I have a gtr motor that is ~18-20 years old now and it took some effort to get the head to seperate.

Some aftermarket parts will fit, just keep an eye on alternator and crank pulley which it changes on some years. Stay with the Kia cylinder head and pistons (have slight more compression, 9.5@1) unless you go with Miata (if I recall) 2001 that are 10@1.
Stay with the Kia axles and transmission. On the exhaust side, it almost has a semi-header, a very cheap mod on Mazdas if many dont want to spend the cash. The Mazda/Scort is cast and flows like crap. Stick with your Kia intake manifold, do not install the Mazda/Scort unless going turbo which then would suggest a Mazda GT-R mani.
Of course there are other routes, but I am staying on the low budget side of performance upgrades.
Look also on Miata forums, almost the same deal...
On the crank side, if purchasing a Escort engine, look for the engine with the big nose crank, if I remember well, 93 to 95, may be off on the years. It is easy to distinguish, the crank bolt is much bigger on the big nose crank compared to the small nose.
Good luck!
