    Project FWD Rally

Alrighty been a bit since I finally decided what i wanted to do the with 323. so here it goes.

I'm going for the "rally" style as seeing I won't have the money to buy an 4WD protege or make this into a awd setup. I'm just going to make it into what I see it looking great as. I'll drive it til the motor falls out. and have it look just the way I want it. Any and all Input is welcomed. Thanks. (I did this a while back when i had a 91 4door civic. and it worked out alright but this car just has that true rally look at heart and seeing as the GTR is a rally car makes sense haha.

My Plans to have done before the snow here:

    1.Custom Mudflaps
    2.Lightbar FrontBumper-4Fogs
3.HIDs for Headlights(they're far to dark right now.)
    4. Winterforces or other Winter Tire all around
5.Get Turbo setup ready for Springtime (have turbo already)
6.Scrape Pan wanna keep all that nasty salt away from my strut towers haha.
7.RoofRack LightBar(unsure how i'll do this but i'll figure it out)
8.Get all the above done haha.

I'll get pics all along the way too.

Here's a picture of my light bar, on the Escort rally car. It slides through tight fitting holes in the bumper, then bolts going up thru the bottom of the bumper hold it down. What you can't see is the one key piece to making a tubular light bar work well, there is a stabilizing piece that sticks thru the grill and bolts to the left half of the bar, keep it from shaking.

A little advice on the HID's:

Get yellowish ones, as both the white and blue ones are HORRIBLE in snow...... The brightness reflects on the snow and sort of blinds you, lol! Yellow tinted hid kits don't seem to do this for some reason.

                  Here's my car

The lights were $80-$100 at Harbor Freight. My buddy and I made the light bar from some scrap metal at his house and about $10 in hardware (never buy hardware at places like Lowes, Home Depot, or Menards always go to some place like Ace Hardware or Hardware Hank that sells stuff individually.)

I made the bracket by drilling some holes in the flange of the radiator frame. There's another piece of flat stock that triangulates the top angle iron to another hole drilled lower in the radiator frame. I had to clearance the bumper a little bit but the whole setup is pretty stiff and the lights don't bounce around. The biggest downside is that if you crash the angle iron is going to go right through your radiator.
                  Loose nut behind the wheel...

sorry for taking so long to get back to you guys ya I was planning on going with the yellow HIDs. actually. I've had 30k/8k/12k and they look great and all but are awful for visibility in rain/snow especially the 30ks haha. the 8ks were decent. but im going for some like 4k? i believe is the yellow color on the HID spectrum.

I'll get some pics up I just got some new wheels and tires. not exactly the right season for these tires in my opinion it's a full set of Allseason NITTO NT450s not sure what rims they are off hand nothing special but look quite nice.
tire size is 195/55/15 if i remember off hand correctly.

Haven't been able to make it out to my friends place yet either to start fabbing up my light bar."should turn out similar to Jrally"

And to reply of what my goal for the rally look etc or usage thing. Is that I do mainly plan to go for the use but if I happen to find a nice snowy road or dirty trail i'd like to be prepared for it. in style. =D

(((((ALSO IN OTHER NEWS I HAVE GOTTEN MY FRIENDS DADS 93? DX PROTEGE as I was waiting for that but I believe I'll just end up selling it so if anyone would be interested I'll try and get some info up about it i'll be letting it go for cheap cheap"

I think 4300K is the 'white' color that comes with a lot of OEM HIDs.. the 6000K and up is blue, moving towards the far end of the spectrum. I've got some 5000K lights that are as white as I've been able to find (inexpensively). 3000K would be the yellow ones from what I know.

                            Actually, here's a photo:

you can see the very bottom is the 3000K (the numbers are cut off, in the photo, but you can see the switch panel is lit for 3000K).

That being said, instead of the actual capsule emitting yellow, what about a coating like LaminX or the like over the lenses? If it's a clear day without snow/dust in your way, the 4100K-5000K will have more light output. If it's snowy, just slap some of that over the lens, and voila. I don't know if that's a good option or not, but it's a thought I had.

I'm in the middle of converting yellow glass lens, 6" Dia. driving lights to HID, using the 5000K bulbs. The output of the 3000K bulb seemed a good bit lower then the others, that's why I was avoiding them. I'll give it a try and let you guys know how I like them.
Currently I have 5000K driving lights and highbeams on my rally car, along with 130W halogen yellow fog lights for heavy dust. This set-up isn't too bad, but the projector headlights suck and really aren't helping much for rallying.
